USACG necks

you'd say these things are worth the cash, right? real high quality and nice-like?

is there anything better you can think of? that's not too expensive, of course.
i'm actually looking for a 24" scale maple neck with rosewood fingerboard,
1 5/8" nut width, vintage frets, and vintage radius.

also i need a breakdown of the tonal differences between madagascar rosewood and brazilian.

Re: USACG necks

well, I've ordered one neck and body from USACG

Tommy's very good to deal with, and yes, high quality necks and service. I think where they shine is in their system of ordering necks - you spec the depth, radius, and taper - that's a good way to spec any neck you might want.

depending on what you want specifically, you should be aware that the peghead shape varies slightly from Fender's, although I've read on their forum that it's an easy thing to modify.

I don't know about the tonal differences between the two rosewoods ... I've ordered several necks with Madagascar, and it's fine for me. Brazilian rosewood is known for it's figure and color variation, but I didn't find any wood descriptions off hand that distinguished the tone from Madagascar. Maybe someone else knows.

anyway, here's the pics of the tele body and neck I got from USACG:

Re: USACG necks

I've heard nothing but good things about them. But ultimately, I went with Warmoth when I needed a neck for my Strat project. Warmoth had a better selection and better prices, and I'm very happy with the neck I got. Beautiful woods, excellent workmanship, perfect fret work...can't ask for more than that.

If you just want a basic Strat or Tele neck, either place is fine. I've heard USACG is a little more flexible when it comes to doing custom work outside of what they normally offer. In my case, USACG didn't offer the neck wood I wanted, and they didn't offer stainless steel fretwire (although they recently added this option.)

The best thing to do is make a list of the options you want, and then see who has the best price. I'm sure either place could easily do what you're looking for. There may be some issues with the neck pickup location if you switch to a 24 fret neck though.

Re: USACG necks

Tommy At USA is great to deal with and makes excellent necks. I own 2 custom necks with tiltback reverse 70's Strat headstocks , one with a Strat heel and one with a Tele heel. Warmoth wouldn't even consider doing them while Tommy was excited to do them though he did warn it would take a bit longer, which it did, about 3 months.
