Using DiMarzio Hs-3 with Humbuckers?

I've been interested in using a Dimarzio HS-3 in the neck along with a humbucker in the bridge for awhile now, but I've been sceptical about this kind of combination because it's the weakest pickup DiMarzio makes. Has anyone here tried it and if so, how did it work out?

I have one next to a paf. it works good but the volume difference is notable.

Thanks for the info! I had been looking into some pafs, but was afraid this was going to be the case.

a humbucker with less output than a paf... Doesn't sound appealing and would probably have to be custom. I'd rather settle on using a heavy blues 2 in the neck.

Slightly unrelated, but I was thinking about this sort of combination because I wanted to use my DiMarzio shockwave system with an HS-3. What did you end up using with your shockwave?

I wonder why HS-3 are so popular. My old partcaster's chinese SC's outperformed HS-3's in every possible way (yngwie's tone included). However, HS-3's sounded much better with the bottom coil disabled (used as true SC).
Looking back at those days, I wonder where the funk did I get all this time and energy to try those stupid things.

You need a off tap amp to drive them i think.

Some **** that didn't work right. Ha! i was trying to boost a hotrail neck and bkb sinner both jammed in a bridge position. Just another stupid idea that i will fix eventually.
