Using the middle position with 2 humbuckers

I use the middle position a lot and adjust volume on bridge or neck accordingly. BUT , , , I only need to turn maybe a half number or so to achieve a different tone. Any more and it sounds like one or the other pickup is on by itself. Not a lot of blend. I want to change it to a much more gradual change for better tonal variations. Capice'? And . . . wiring that allows both p-ups to stay on when one volume is redused.

Likely has to do with the pickup combination you are running. If the bridge and neck pickups have radically different voices and or outputs, you will get this with a single volume control, The taper of the pot won't change this dynamic. I have pulled a pickup I liked because I couldn't find a pickup that would match it in the middle position. It's also the reason I only run Saturday Night Specials as a set. The only way to fix it is to run operate volumes for each pickup or find a set that matches better in output and tone.
Like you, I use the middle position a lot when I play and have also fought with this. The old Carvin active system had a blend control that only worked in the middle position and that might help, but have no idea how to wire one up in a normal guitar.

Yeah, I've generally done this with very different pickups, so I get more tonal variation than if were a matched pair. I would think linear taper pots would be the answer.

like the other guys said, if you have audio taper pots, try linear. what pups are you using?
