Using the tremolo after 17 years...

I stopped using the tremolo on my strat in 1987 because the guitar was going out of tune. I quit playing around 1989 and started playing again in 2001. I rebiased my amp this week and put back those cheapo 12ax7wb I am apparently used to (I had "upgraded" the amp with EH tubes which I found a bit harsh) and the thing played miles better. I wanted to give it a test run and I decided the Strat would be right. I looked for the a cloth to clean the strings and I found - my tremolo bar! Wow, it's been a while since I haven't used it. I screwed the thing on and it could on go down because the bridge is set against the body. I took one spring out (left 2), pressed the bar and the guitar tone went NEEEENAAAAAA....... NEEEEENAAAAAAA .........:D

I worked out a few rules like: - in order to pull strings up I had to loosen the strings first and then play the string and let it go up; - us it sparingly; - etc....

To cut a long story short, here's the clip of me using the whammy after 17 years whilst testing that cute little baby rebiased amp:

Thanks for taking your time to listen to my clip and above all read the gibberish that I write. :)

P.S. I'll get better with that whammy....

nice tune as normal. that strat suits your playing well it sounds! also, with some practise with that bar, you could be a fenom!

Re: Using the tremolo after 17 years...

Hehe I got hooked badly after listening to much to Jeff Beck's Guitarshop....wow
So after have been attacked by Edwards screaming dives and odd bends....then Jeff comes along and does melodylines from outer space....man I love it.
:D

Yeah, Beck was one the main inspirations for me in my youth ("earlier" youth, to be precise). Another good guy with the tremolo bar is Adrian Belew.

Rid, have you read the VH interview which was posted in the Sound Room?

Thanks, the Strat was my first real guitar. I just left a bit on the side lately. I'll give a try with the tremolo. These locking tuners nowdays really help.

Marin...
Yes I have, I lost that link some time ago, so now I saved it on my computer.
Interesting read, and it is fun to collect Edwards interviews, just to compare them...he is a sneak :burnout:

Re: Using the tremolo after 17 years...

rid, can u pm me the link for the interview? thanks

It beats me , Marin, why you aren't a member of one of Italy's top bands. You'd have to be a strong candidate for 'best player' in this forum.

Maybe because I always refused to play "Volare" and "O Sole Mio".....:D

Thanks Lee.

The purpose of these clips is not show off or anything, since I do post some crap sometimes....:) It's just an innate desire to share what one plays, makes or hears on his own. I believe it's a part of doing music.

Gee Marin that clip sounded, like always, fantastic! That strat gets some sweet rich tones, what pickups are in it?

lol, what kind exactly? Are they what gives it that rich sweet sound.
Oh sorry....I forgot. I use their first models, the SA's. Everything else is just a derivative of that. :D

Yes, they help to get a thicker sound on a strat. Think Steve Lukather and D.Gilmour, they've been using them for a while.

Other thing are the amp and the equalizer setting. Your amp could sound similar once you fix it. :)

Thanks.

I've played for 9 years, then I didn't play for 12 years and now I have been playing for 3 years.
