I stopped using the tremolo on my strat in 1987 because the guitar was going out of tune. I quit playing around 1989 and started playing again in 2001. I rebiased my amp this week and put back those cheapo 12ax7wb I am apparently used to (I had "upgraded" the amp with EH tubes which I found a bit harsh) and the thing played miles better. I wanted to give it a test run and I decided the Strat would be right. I looked for the a cloth to clean the strings and I found - my tremolo bar! Wow, it's been a while since I haven't used it. I screwed the thing on and it could on go down because the bridge is set against the body. I took one spring out (left 2), pressed the bar and the guitar tone went NEEEENAAAAAA....... NEEEEENAAAAAAA .........
I worked out a few rules like: - in order to pull strings up I had to loosen the strings first and then play the string and let it go up; - us it sparingly; - etc....
To cut a long story short, here's the clip of me using the whammy after 17 years whilst testing that cute little baby rebiased amp:

Thanks for taking your time to listen to my clip and above all read the gibberish that I write.

P.S. I'll get better with that whammy....
