How would 2 V30s and 2 G12H30s sound in a Marshall 4x12 with a Marshall JCM 800 2203? Would the total rating of 120 watts be enough for a 100 watt head? Ive heard of people using this combo in an open back cabinet, but how would it sound in a closed 4x12? Thanks for any help!

It would rock, and it would definitely have plenty of power handling. IMO unless you are playing high gain speed metal, it normally sounds better to use guitar speakers rated close to the power of your amp. Then you are operating them in their sweet spot volume wise. Using over rated speakers can be descibed as sounding hard, or brittle.

That would result in a 120 watt 4x12 cab for your 100 watt amp - no problem. It's my favorite speaker combo and I run it with my Bogner Shiva (in Mesa traditional cab). Those two speakers ompliment each other very well.

I run one of each in a 2x12....sounds good both open backed or close backed!

I think it's Splawn...or one of the makers out there...that uses them in an X pattern.

Re: V30/G12H30 Combo?

I know that the wattage rating on amps is usually based on when the amp is clean. So, if I'm putting the master on 5 (with a Hot Plate) with a good amount of gain, am I going to risk blowing a speaker?

Re: V30/G12H30 Combo?

A V30/G12H30 combo in a 4x12 can handle a total of 120 watts (the V30's can handle more, but the G1230's are maxed at that point). Adding gain doesn't make a difference.

So, even if I crank the amp, Im not gonna blow a speaker?

No. Your amp puts out 100 watts when turned up full blast. You'll kill your ears before the speakers go.

I totally agree.. speaker movement has a lot to do with a good rock tone.
