Van Halen - Ice Cream Man solo & some impro!

Re: Van Halen - Ice Cream Man solo & some impro!

Awesome playing man, you've got some awesome chops.
But really didn't like the mix much at all to be honest. Hi hat doesn't sound that good and the snare wasn't much better and it really distracted from the overall sound, which is a shame because the guitar playing is excellent

Thanks a lot man!

Well the drums are from a backing track, so there wasnt much i could do :(

I loved it, although yeah, the hihat is quite annoying. And I don't like the guitar tone too much either, it's overly compressed. BUT, I really like your playing, everything you post up here is great! :1:

Thanks man, you always listen and coment my stuff, i appreciate that a lot!

About the tone, i didnt use any kind of compression, im still learning to use my ears, but still is hard for me to get a good tone, im will not blame my gear for that!

Re: Van Halen - Ice Cream Man solo & some impro!

No probs man. You maybe aren't using compression as an effect, but if you're using high gain pickups, into high gain amp/amp sim maybe that's what I'm hearing. It doesn't seem to breathe if you know what I mean.
Think of The Darkness first album - the guitar tones on there were really open and full, whereas what you've got on this track is kinda thin and too tight. It's hard to explain! ;)

I kinda get it, ill try to tweak the knobs now! Thanks man!

Re: Van Halen - Ice Cream Man solo & some impro!

Over it was great! Van Halen enough to enjoy, yet clearly your own. I liked it!!! I'm one of those "never play it how it was" guys. I'll hit some high points and themes, but my own stuff always gets in.

Two way to improve and really hit it.
#1 Less up and down the string harmonic slides. Maybe one long one as a climax/effect somewhere
#2 This is a general statement. Some of those scorching runs need to swing a little. That whole song is about the swing. You go into straight 16th scale mode. Kills the swing a bit.

Overall I really like it though. was that a first take, worked out, or a little of both?

Yar! Fantastic chops, bro. I can't do that—wish I could. I'm more of a Clapton/Iommi kinda guy.

Snap! I don't have the patience to sit down and get to that sort of level. Very cool stuff.

I don't sound anything like Clapton or Iommi either!!! :D
