To throw another monkey wrench in the EVH gear list:

I'm sure I must have seen this picture before, but it was either too small to make out or I didn't pay close enough attention. It's hard to see here, but it's clear as day on the magazine cover.

That headstock says Gibson. So the question is, what guitar did that come from or did he just have it painted on there in another attempt to fool people?

I would think so, too, but the picture in the article ibanezmedz linked to shows it with Gibson worn, sanded, or otherwise removed. Which would mean to me that it's NOT a Charvel neck, but IDK.

I do remember reading somewhere that he said he would have to replace the necks on his guitars several times during a tour because he was so hard on them. Maybe it's just some random neck they found laying around. :laugh2:

Re: Van Halen on GW: Guitar Legends cover

According to in depth research done by many people at eddievanhalen.com, the neck is as follows:

Mighty Mite neck
plain maple fretboard
1 3/4" nut
birdseye maple back
brass nut
CBS headstock
Ed put the Gibson logo on the headstock himself and with time it wore off

Ed replaced and switched necks on his guitars several times- the neck off teh Charvel VHII black and yellow bumble bee guitar found its way onto teh Frankenstrat and eventually a butchered up Explorer shaped guitar that was carved out to be a dragon- just look for the birdseye maple neck with black painted headstock
