Variax Bass

Let me tell you. I love it. If I were a bassist, it would be the bass I would use. I'll let you all be the judge though...

Check it out and look at the video and check out the models. If you have a decent sound system on your PC, it's that much better....

Re: Variax Bass

I can only judge it lookswise...

But it looks ugly to me.

Interesting technologically though. hopefully built better (and sound better) than the guitar.

Re: Variax Bass

Yeah, I saw this being plugged on their site a while back. At first I thought "wow, that could be a good buy to have a bass around for recording", but then I remembered how much the Variax guitar sells for :grumble:

Re: Variax Bass

I like the sounds ... but need to see a price first

Re: Variax Bass

Looks like a great recording tool to me. Combine it with a bass pod and you're set.

Re: Variax Bass

I had one at our LA Line 6 Users group mtg last month and it sounds great in person! Dead on quiet too. We played it through an SVT. That's possibly my next piece of non-guitar gear for my studio.

Re: Variax Bass

i think there needs to be more innovations in guitar and bass building. I am all for it.
BTW, what does 'digital' sound like? Clean? Crisp? What you play is instantly translated?

Re: Variax Bass

As a player mainly of the 4 string kind, I'm not super impressed. The tones all sound kind of generic, sterile, and bland. Combined with a POD, you'd sure have an unlimited amount of tone potentials. I'm sure your audience wouldn't notice a difference between the Variax and the real thing.

There's just something special about a nice, heavy piece of bass. There's a certain... character to the sound of a bass that I expect, and I just don't know if this could do it. Give me a single P or Jazz bass, and I'll be good to go.

All IMO, of course.

Upon further review, it WOULD be badass to have synth bass at the touch of a button. :D

Ugly indeed, But to give it some credit it looks better then the Variax Guitar :laugh2:

Re: Variax Bass

IMHO, the Variax bass and guitar models aren't the coolest pieces of gear to look at. That's not why I own one though. I look at the bigger opportunites. I agree with Jolly that if you had a Variaz Bass and a Bass POD you wouldn't really need anything else in the studio. When playing a Variax live, you have to get over the "physicalness" of the guitar itself. You have to use your imagination and think outside of the box. The sounds are there and they are very good...
