Versatile low noise booster?

Please recomend a versatile boost. Clean boost is a must but having options for EQ option gets more points because I really appreciate having the tools to tweak the sound, when swaping guitars for exmaple. I had been using Boss GE-7 but it can get noisy and need it back as post-gain EQ fine tuning.

For example the TC Electronics Spark Boost looks promising but not sure if turning its gain all the way back will be really a clean boost. Any users there would like to comment?

On the other hand the Fender Engager boost has no gain control and you have a mids knob to reall control how much you add/cut in the midrange.

Which is the most silent? Any other recommendation?

A boost is typically a very simple circuit. Usually with a boost, the noise is from signal before the boost or from noisy power rather than the boost itself.

I've been using an SP compressor as a clean boost occasionally . . . turn the mix knob all the way to dry signal and the boost all the way up. It's a pretty quiet circuit for these purposes.

I forgot to say, my main goal is to keep the boost pedal always on, volume dynamics are thru volume knob and touch.

I really like my first generation SD Pickup Booster. Mine does not get noisy. However, it does not have any EQ.

The 2nd version of the Pickup Booster has a resonance switch, which sounds like a low pass filter. But by design, it boosts (cleanly and transparently) whatever you feed it.

I never thought outside-the-box and considered the resonance functionality as EQ. :oo

The first version has the resonance switch also, but the gain sweep is 6dB to 25dB. The second version's gain sweep is 0dB to 25dB, so you can pot it down to 0dB and use it as a buffer. Resonance switch on "0", it truly is a clean and transparent boost.

Yeah, you hear the 'resonance' as a low pass filter. Not an actual EQ, but effectively it sort of works like one.

Joyo or Mooer might have a mxr 10 eq clone in their lineup, should be cheap. They probably have a mini boost pedal as well with less EQ options.

...

If you are satisfied with your GE-7 except for the noise, take a look at posts #12 & #13 in this topic:

You may just be able to mod your GE-7.

TC Spark (fullsize version) is by far one of my fav pedals. Only reason I don't have it anymore is because I fried the traces trying to replace the switch. But it can be as pristinely clean or slightly crunchy as you need it to be and everything in between. Very versatile.

I've also been looking at the TC Spark recently. The clean mode seems to be designed for what you're looking for.

This guy demonstrates a pure clean boost with the gain all the way down at 4:40:

Let us know how it goes if you get one.

Since you mention that noise is a really big factor, have you tried the reverse boost trick?

Set up your gear to the biggest most screamingly loud sound that you need, then run an EQ pedal that cuts most frequencies so you get back down to normal volume. Kick the EQ off to get your lead sound, kick it back on to get your rhythm. Doing this you won't get any noise from the pedal.

If my amp had more gain I would not need the booster.

Xotic Super Clean Boost
It's a very nice little pedal, with external dip switches for EQ changes. I like it a lot. There's plenty of boost on tap, too, and it sounds like you want the extra kick.

I agree with the above that the GE7 can be noisy, unfortunately.
