Versatile overdrive?

Can a single overdrive pedal do these different things?

- Low freq cut at the guitar signal before it hits the overdrive circuit. This helps a lot with clarity and articulation, specially for humbuckers. I can always use my GE-7 to cut lows but I would rather do thins in a single pedal to save real state.
- A kind of flat EQ distortion by default but with the ability to add/cut mids and treble after the overdrive circuit. To get a hard rock rhythm out of a "dirty cleans" amp (edge of breakup).
- Wide range of usable gain control. From as little gain as possible to a healthy lot of gain.

In other words I want a pedal that can help me get articulated high gain crunch rhythm or thick juicy leads, depending on the needs of the song.

I already tried Boss SD-1 for soloing but I need more gain in some cases, the Fulltone Plimsoul had enough gain and good EQ for soloing however its voice has too much character so I loose the character of my amp for the rhythm sounds. In the demos the voice of the JHS Morning Glory and S3 Overdrive sound neutral to me and probably clones of the King of Tone are good candidates.

Any suggestions? Should I look into digital pedals to achieve something like this? Any analog pedal?

If you need access to that all at once, you'd need some kind of programmable pedal, or one with presets. The Palladium could do what you are looking for, but you'd have to bend down to change knobs to get different sounds.

Go to a guitar store and see if they'll let you play with some. Beats hanging around online and discussing theoretical distortion analysis with a bunch of nerds any day.

Check out the JHS PG-13. You can easily dial in a mid boost/cut or flat EQ, and there's a huge range of gain (with different feeling gain depending on how you set it).

Doesn't do much (any?) low cut though - you can kinda work around this by setting the mid boost just right.

Are you serious? Some pedals stores have hundreds of pedals which they don't know themselves, it would take me days to tray pedal after pedal without doing some research first. I ask in the forums to save time and focus on just a bunch of them :)

look at the mxr timmy if you dont need a battery powered option. three clipping options and a good amount of gain on tap but with the gain off and the middle clipping option selected, its a clean boost with eq. the bass control is pre drive so you can keep the bottom nice and tight, the treble control is post drive so you can adjust the sizzle at the end

I would take a look at the Source Audio Classic Distortion Pro you can dial in the gain pre and post EQ. And clone almost any drit stomp or head overdrive you can dream of.

Rick Savage still uses one of those in his bass rig.

I get versatility out of a lot of different overdrives. The one that really surprised me is the MXR 5150. For an OD that can melt your face, simple adjustments and rolling the guitar volume back really makes it a sweet mid-gain and dare I say a light overdrive. All depends on how you set it up and work the guitar's controls.

Went through several different OD's looking for what you describe. Finally settled on a Wampler Bell. It's their variant on the Nobels. Checks all of your boxes and more. I normally am not a fan of any OD pedals but this one is an exception.
Nice demo is here.

the kot is a good pedal but you cant dial back the bass, the prince of tone is the single channel version and its great too. theres an mxr version of that too called the duke of tone. i still think timmy is the right answer here.

I’ll just chime in to say I’m a newly-minted Wampler fan boy. All my experience with his pedals has been amazing.

The FoxRox FR 100 is a great OD pedal with different voicing options (e.g., bright, mid-pushed, and bassy), and it has a built in, foot switchable mid boost option, all in a pretty compact format.

TBH, it sounds like you just want two different overdrive pedals that serve slightly different purposes. Is that not doable for you?__PRESENT
