Robert S. said:Supposedly V1 had the lead I red channel voiced as the British shred or modern Recto voice, V2 is the Vintage Recto voice and the fat mod added to V2 was supposed to expand the bottom end.
V3 is supposedly on the way into the stores and has the Lone Star Lead voice instead of the Recto voice in lead I red channel. It's a shame because while I think the Lonestars are killer sounding amps I wouldn't trade my Lead I red channel for it. Thats the one I use most often.
At least thats the way they are saying it goes on the Triaxis Yahoo group I'm in. I'll check the Mesa site.

Robert S. said:I have the version 2 Triaxis. I couldn't find any info on the Mesa site regarding version 3 but I doubt they will be offering 2 versions simutaniously. Version 1 hasn't been available since version 2 was released. I'm sure version 3 will sound killer but after almost four years of running the v2 lead 1 red channel as my primary gain channel I'd have a hard time losing it.
The thing is that the V2 lead 1 channel isn't actually dead nuts recto and I run 112 3/4 back cabs and I'm not getting the 412 grunt from my rig either so my tone is somewhat unique. I'll have to see if anyone in the area is carrying a V3 Triaxis and check it out. I hear that they are shipping now so there might be one around somewhere. So far the only thing I have heard is the rumors.
Robert S. said:Actually I owned a version 1 triaxis back in the early 90s that was stolen in LA. I don't remember the difference in tone between V1 and V2 though, it was too long between versions to make a comparison.
Why did they do v3 and will they still offer v2? Are the v2 tones in lead 1 red available in v2? Why do birds sing so sad? All questions I don't have an answer for. Call Mesa Boogie, 707-778-6565 m-th during business hours and ask. They'll be happy to answer all your questions, send you literature or whatever if they think you might buy an amp. Their customer service is really killer and they've spent quite a bit of time with me over the phone in the last few years.
V1 and V2 triaxis preamps can be found used all over the place. You can get any version you like, but maybe not new. Get to a guitar center and have them search their system or call around to some mom-n-pops type Mesa dealers. Someone still has a v2 in stock I bet. They don't always move real fast because of the price tag.

There is no visible software prompt like you get on many digital units, but the software isnt upgradeable to my knowledge. The fat mod was additional hardware if I am not mistaken and the amp voices are created by the hardware and not by any software changes. The Triaxis isn't like aother digital devices where you can load new parameters, the software just does the switching and that never changes.
I can't even find a reference to v2 in my manual.
