VERY ROUGH R8 Clip

JeffB

Let it B
kinda long..I was experimenting with volume and "mic" placement (i.e. moving around my stupid laptop with my feet while I'm trying to play :laugh2: so the treble and volume vary a bit ) Still gotta get my patches sorted out too. Lotta honk to this guitar, gotta pull back some mids I think(?)

Starts off 800 for a bit.....few noodles with the Bassman and JTM models, than back to the 800...GB25 cab on each model

Re: VERY ROUGH R8 Clip

Needs a cranked tube amp of course, but I can honestly say I've never heard a Line 6 product sound so thick without being the least bit muddy.

Nice chops too!

Re: VERY ROUGH R8 Clip

Now that is the tone of a good LP. Very nice. Sounds like it's very responsive too. The mids aren't bad at all, just right IMO.

Re: VERY ROUGH R8 Clip

Thanks everyone :D Yeah..DEF needs a good cranked tube amp. I will say though that "live/in person" the Atomic/POD sounds *MUCH* better than it does in these clips.

Though it's still got a little digital glitching/artifacts, the Atomic def helps the clarity and warmth.

I'm glad the difference in tone of the R8 vs my other guitars was able to be heard :laugh2: The Faded sounds good, the Hamer sounds good, the R8 is over the top..again, in person, it's quite a difference

I'll try to make some better clips soon.

:honk:

:D

Re: VERY ROUGH R8 Clip

Jeff, I couldn't get the link to work but I will tell you this...the honk is in those pickups! I actually miss that honk sometimes...if you want to keep the tone about the same but have a little more clarity and a little less honk try a setof Seth, if you want more clarity then the BB's and even less honk that the Seth's try a set of Antiquitys...

Yeah I think soundclick is down.

I like the honk actually and I don't care what anyone says, the BurstBuckers are great pickups *IF* they are ina quality piece of wood.

I'll throw the 10K custom shop pup in it to try but that's it. That BB2 will go right back in if it doesn't work out.

I actually liked mine as well...I would have to say over all I like the Ant's better but not because I felt that the BB's were bad pickups just not what I was looking for in a Les Paul. I kept them and they could go back in at any minute...I like the honk and I have almost none of it in the Ant's. Now that you've had it a day or 3...what do you think of the taper of the pots? I didn't care for it at first but it's growing on me...

Taper *is* odd as you said earlier in the PM. I haven't played with it enough to be honest.

Speaking for the volume controls that is. I think, because of it's nature, that taper would work REALLY well for a totally cranked Fender or VOX, and then roll back that volume to 3 or 4 or so to go totally clean or 5 or 6 for a mild crunch..and dial in the amps tone controls at the lower guitar volume and leave it there for your main tone. Then when you want dirt for a solo, just crank up the volume knob..like a built in distortion pedal :D

For the way *I* use the volume pots and the amount of gain I use, it will take a bit more to get used to it...but don't really see it as being an issue.

Sounds really fat! Good playing too! :smokin:

Re: VERY ROUGH R8 Clip

sounds great man!!

i love my podXT/atomic setup. the only issue i have with it is how directional it is. as you walk around the room it changes sound much more than a typical tube amp. still sounds killer when you dial it in right though!

although i can't for the life of me get and of the marshall (high gain) patches to sound good so i stick with a mesa patch i've been working on 98% of the time.

Re: VERY ROUGH R8 Clip

Thank You everyone!

Mike,

yes..the unidirectional thing is a PITA but for home it's workable

couple things I've found regarding the 2203 and high gain...

I have the XTL which has a "pad" for high output pups...even though I don't use HO pups, I use the pad...seems to add just a bit of clarity...

Also, it pretty much sounds like crap through the 75s or V30s...it's hard to dial in a tone with those...the 25W GB cab works best I've found, and the 20W GB is not bad either...actually works better for scoopier metal tones if thats your thing...

Try dialing everything on 10...like you would with a PLexi (meaning the tone controls)....this seems to tighten the model up quite a bit when the gain is past 1 o clock or so (if you don't have the pad, I'd say 11 oclock)...the mid and bass controls are VERY interactive..if you dime the mid and bass, the bass is not too boomy, but as soon as you pull the mid off 10..there's the flab back...then tweak your treble/presence...I find backing off treble more than usual and adding a bit of presence works better :)

Forgot to say..add gain with the Vetta Boost if you need more...
