Vintage braided-to-4 Conductor Conversion?

Could anyone recommend a tech that could convert my vintage-wired humbucker to a 4 conductor output? Has anyone tried this?

Re: Vintage braided-to-4 Conductor Conversion?

Theres a tread I posted a couple weeks back, Search: converting single conductor to 4 conductor. I did it, and its a bit of a PITA, but it can be done. Where theres a will theres a way.

I wanted to A4 my '59n but still keep the cover. I had never worked on covered pups and did not want to mess it up.

I asked Forum Bro ArtieToo. He swapped the magnet, converted the 2-con to 4-con and put the cover back on. Totally professional from first contact to finished product!!!

There is some serious pickup, guitar and guitar tech talent here on the forum!

Re: Vintage braided-to-4 Conductor Conversion?

Thanks for the kind words JP, but to be honest, if it was me, I'd send it back to Duncan. It really is a PITA and I charge the same as Duncan. But consider this, if a Duncan tech accidently slips and breaks a coil wire, they can just grab a replacement off the shelf and replace it. If I do the same thing, (hasn't happened yet), I'm screwed. If I was charging a lot less, it might be worth it to send it to me, but since Duncan charges the same, why not let them do it.

One other thing, I use a 4-cond that I get from GuitarElectronics. Its a bit stiffer than genuine Duncan wire.

Re: Vintage braided-to-4 Conductor Conversion?

Thanks for the feedback, guys. I know I didn't go into detail about what pickups I was talking about - they're actually the original stock pickups from my Hagstrom Swede Re-issue, which I recently replaced with a '59 & Custom 5. I thought they would be the closest I could get to what I had, albeit it with coil-tapping options, but it really is a night and day difference, they sound nothing like them. It would be worth it to pay that much to have this done, because I've had no luck finding a similar replacement, and of course I can always sell these brand new Duncans to the best offer on here afterwards.

Ah, I see. Well, I can do them, but like I said, I charge $20 apiece, just because it is . . . a PITA. Let me know, with a PM.
