Vintage Fenders and one-piece maple neck

Let's say you want to buy something as an investment, a vintage Fender, that you also want to play and you prefer one-piece maple neck.

Is there any hope to get something that's a bit sparkly (not CBS'ed up and not 70tied up with heavy body and whatnot) and not outrageously expensive because it is older than 1959?

Obviously you can get a 1983 AVRI which are very collectible because Gilmour happens to like those necks but... meh. Doesn't really count.

Any 50s and 60s fender is going to be in the four figure range no question and well into five figures. If your looking for a players guitar they will likely be cheaper then a closet queen in excellent condition but how much coin are you willing to drop and how far back are you willing to go?

I'm willing to pay going rate for the pretty common sunburst rosewood board ~63 Strats but prefer maple neck.

Bit hard to express right in $$$ since I want a sunburst and sunburst is apparently the least desirable color, not to mention I want one with lots of paint flaking off, not exactly a collector's dream

You might want to ask around over on the Fender or Strat forum. Is the investment/resale value a big deal because for the same amount you could commission a luthier to build you one but I know having "Fender" on the head stock is a big deal to some.

Nah. I need something to fix some holes in my 401K and to balance other risks. I don't think anything new will do.
