Re: VINTAGE GIBSON LES PAUL CASE

I see several on eBay for about $180. Maybe not “vintage” but old doesn’t = worth more.

Re: VINTAGE GIBSON LES PAUL CASE

brentrocks is typically spot on. Solid reputation here on the forum as well. Maybe consider the reputation of your fleaBay sellers when they're offering a 50 year old case?

Re: VINTAGE GIBSON LES PAUL CASE

LOL!

Um, no.

It's not a case-case or a standalone item. Its practical usefulness is inconsequential.

It's utilized for flipping caseless vintage guitars for more moolah by making them appear to be "complete and original" to collectors

Same reason oddball old parts with no practical value in a guitar as purely a musical instrument can have eye-watering prices

Re: VINTAGE GIBSON LES PAUL CASE

I hate to "defend" this guy of all people here, but this is actually an OK starting price for the case.

If someone has an ax from the same era a matching case can bring the asking price up well beyond $350 for the pair.

Nobody is calling Brent’s reputation into question here.
An overpriced case is an overpriced case.

You might see some more beat examples of this particular variant of a '70's case on E-Bay for $180, perhaps plus shipping. And you will also see completed auctions that went for over that, including one on Reverb that went for Brent's asking price plus $40 or $50 shipping. Pricing is variable. As I said, it's an "OK starting price." If you think this is a terribly bad starting point for this particular old case, then you obviously haven't ever tried to track down a year-matching case for an old '60's or '70's Gibson. I have, and I know very well that this is an OK asking price to start.

Securb is right on here. It isn't going to be sought out by any-old guy looking to case any-old Les Paul. It's a very specific vintage restoration part.

Guitar, Junior, are you in all seriousness basing your valuation of a very specific vintage Gibson case on E-Bay asking prices for newer Gibson cases? Come on, now. It's value is not just as a Les Paul case. The value does indeed come from its vintage. Old does = more valuable in this "case." The only reason anyone would buy it would be to replace a missing original case from their '70's Les Paul, for purposes of originality. Considering that brand new Gibson or TKL versions cost half as much new, it's not a bad investment, if you have an old one without the right case (as I do – but Brent's is the wrong vintage for my caseless Lester).

This is a sale thread for a case. There’s no need for 90% of the posts within it. I’m locking this so the sale remains for now, but I suggest you delete this thread Brent, and start a new one.
