Vintage Ibanez V-2 ?

Hi
Im wondering if anyone can help me here.

A friend has an old early 80's Ibanez V-2 pickup , It looks like a Dimarzio Super Distortion .
Its from either an Explorer or one of those early 80's Les Pauls/ Paul Stanley etc type guitars
Not to be confused with the V2's in the RG series

As its double cream & I need a pickup that color he has offered it to me , he is in another state so I cant hear it for myself
Does anyone know what these pickups sound like ?

BTW it measures about 12.2K

Re: Vintage Ibanez V-2 ?

It's possible that pickup is a Maxon. Maxon made OEM's for a lot of Japanese brands during the 80's. Their high output models were similar to a Dimarzio Super Distortion. You might need to repot them, but that isn't hard to do.

There were several of those Super Distortion copies- the V2s were made by Gotoh- I had one in my 1981 Destroyer. I also had some Super D copies in an old MIJ BC Rich that I assume were gotoh, but I am unsure.

They are very, very similar to a SuperD but with a bit more treble/brightness to them. still have the nice crunchy character and plenty of lows/low mids.

I actually like them a tad better than a SuperD, proper.

Re: Vintage Ibanez V-2 ?

Thanks for the info guys
I just bought the pickup I hope it sounds good

Its going into a nice strat I have with a Dimarzio Tone Zone S which I find too bright so Im thinking a full sized Humbucker will be warmer .

I do like the old Dimarzio Super Dist , if it sounds similar that would be cool
as long as its not too bright sounding !
