Vintage or modern?

Hey guys, I'm looking into buying a new guitar in the next little while here. It will be of the Les Paul variety, heritage, agile, tokai, or real gibby...I still have to decide that for sure. Wichever it's going to be I'm really conflicted about what to do for pu's, the only thing I know for sure is that I'm not going for anything too similar to my other LP. (C5 and Pearly Gates)

The only way I can describe my desired tone for this guitar is going to be round. What I mean by that is full fat bottom, present mids without a honky nature...vocal and not nasally, and a top end that is singing minus any kind of unnescesary hiss. Also to the pickups have to have a certain slick and smooth quality.

I am quite familiar with high output buckers seeing as I've spent most of my research time based around them, but I know for the tone I'm seeking I may have to go for something in the vintage output realm. So far I've come as far as considering the 57 classic, Dimarzio Air classics, and a Screamin Demon/seth lover set.

I'd love to hear everyone's thoughts as well as suggestions.

Re: Vintage or modern?

You pretty much described the Antiquity and, to a certain extent, the Seth Lover set.

Re: Vintage or modern?

Thanks benjy, I know that the seth lover set is not potted and that concerns me a certain amount considering I use a high gain amplifier with the high gain in use. The antiquities however I'm not sure if they are potted or not.

Re: Vintage or modern?

I also thought about the Seth Lover... the APH might also be an option because it is pretty soft and vocal- think Slash ton...

Re: Vintage or modern?

Neither Seths nor Antiquities are potted. I did not have any problems with unwanted feedback at high volumes when I had Seths in my semi hollow.

As long as you don't aim your amp straight at the guitar, you should be OK.

Re: Vintage or modern?

Alrighty, if they weren't a problem in your hollowbody then I shouldn't have much trouble at all.
