Vintage SM-1n vs Seymourized SM-3n?

I fell in love with the mini-hum's in a Tele neck when I installed an SM-1n in a customers guitar. So I ordered one for my Brent Mason project. I was just looking at it and realized that I'd ordered the SM-3n. I'm guessing I ordered it because it's 4-cond for more wiring options.

While the bridge versions are considerably different, the neck versions are almost the same. 6.3k for the SM-1n vs 6.6k for the SM-3n. Both are A5 mags. Would I be safe in assuming they'll sound about the same?

I know the logical thing to do would be to just install it and listen, but I still haven't brought myself to routing out my only bonafide Fender Tele.

they are sorta similar. there is a difference in the attack, but if you like one, youll probably like the other. if im remembering things correctly, the sm1 is vintage type firebird construction with two bar magnets (one for each coil) with the magnetized plane perpendicular to the strings like a strat pup. i believe the sm3 uses a single magnet with steel blades for pole pieces kinda like a rails humbucker sorta.

That matches what they say: "The Seymourized Mini Humbucker neck is designed so that each coil contains a high-carbon steel blade coupled to the bottom-loaded alnico 5 bar magnet."

They don't say for the SM-1.

I just happen to test both SM-1n and SM-3n at the moment in my SG.

I think the DC resistance is similar, but because of different design the sound different.

Let's start with the idea that both are somewhere between single and humbucker. I would say SM-1n is 70% single 30% humbucker, then SM-3n is the other way around. My playing is sloppy, but I will try to upload something during the weekend.

Sweet! I'd love to hear that. (All my playing is sloppy.)

that makes sense to me since the sm1 has bar magnet poles that act somewhat similar to a strat pup, where the sm3 has a single bar magnet with steel blade poles
