Viper 400 problems

I wrote in a previous post that i got a viper 400 and now they come with emg 81 bridge and 85 neck. I asked wat should i do so i tried using them and playing with them and tweaking settings but it still sounds like garbage to me. So i double checked to see the website i got it on VIPER 400 and it says emg 81s. (when i was in school i was taught that an s at the end of the word meant plural more than 1 in this case hmm possibly 2). Also the picture shows 2 silver inscribed emg logos on both neck and bridge pickups which also mean 81. So i called them explaining how i the 85s that were put in arent working for me and what can i or they do to get the 81 put in that are advertised. They keep claiming that the 85s are stated, which they are in the link right above product review (did anybody else think of looking there) but when i called before their employees didnt even know that link was there and i had to wait 4 days for a phone call telling me i had an 85(which at that point i already knew), i feel this is either false advertising, bait and switch, or careless product posting anyway i think that i should get my 81 neck. They say theres nothing i can do unless i want to send it back and get a new guitar.

any question comments or suggestions on this

Re: Viper 400 problems

I think your problem is that you think you should've gotten an 81/81 set, but you ended upw ith an 85/85 set?

It's Musicians Friend that has ****ed up, here. Every ESP Viper 400 in 2005 has had an 81/85 set.

I can't understand what he's talking about. I think he wanted two 81's and ended up with an 85 neck and 81 bridge. Which is BETTER anyway.

Re: Viper 400 problems

Hell yeah it's better; now you can switch them and have an even better tone.

Re: Viper 400 problems

When the 400 series first came out, the specs were 81/81, but many people complained about the 81 in the neck, so ESP changed it to 81/85. Now some people have ended up with new-old-stock guitars that still had the 81/81 in it when they were expecting 81/85. Seems like you were the opposite and it appears that MF never got around to changing the specs on their product page to reflect the change ESP made. So you were expecting 81/81 like MF says when in reality they come with 81/85. Sounds like the fault is MF's and not ESP's.

Here's the link to the ESP page where they clearly state the Viper 400 comes with 81/85

Re: Viper 400 problems

it was kind of a fact based rant cause it happened @ less than an hour after it happene,d so i was p!ssed. Those that arent week of mind got it like tatooed carrot xeronormous got it in the end (haha). dead skin i put in puntucation just for u.

i was thinking id use 81 because 1 they might not be as harsh as the 85s which i rather be 60s but i doubt im getting that and when my warranty runs out switch the neck the the bridge of another guitar and give it its 60

the 85 makes all my settings on the pod sound muddy, preset and otherwise. i got somewhat of a descent "strung out" like setting but i have to lower the db level and lower the tone but its way to difficult with not a gratifying enought sound.

by the way wat problem did people have with the 81 81

Re: Viper 400 problems

Sorry Felix, but as much as I try I have no idea WTF you´re trying to say, or more rather I refuse to spend another 15 minutes translating your post into properly punctuated, grammaticized and spelled english just so I can understand it... I´d love to help, but i don´t have time for this, sorry ;)

Re: Viper 400 problems

change the pickups, then u dont have to send the guitar back, and ud have some extra pickups for others

Re: Viper 400 problems

i got a 3 year warranty that prevents me from changing pickups. i might switch to the ec 400 because i like the pickup setup in that 1 im just not as fond of the body type and color

Re: Viper 400 problems

Wait, you are on the Seymour Duncan forum.. correct?

Warranty don't mean ass, if you have a local shop, just get them to do any repairs that you need. Unless of course, you snapped the neck or something. But if something like that ever happens, I sure as hell hope ESP wouldn't say "Oh whoops! You changed your pickups, we can't help you anymore!". Bad customer service if that ever happened.
