virtual paf vs jazz

Re: virtual paf vs jazz

Both are excellent sounding pickups. If you're going for vintage PAF vibe, flip a coin. Don't rule out Duncans 59 and Alnico ll or Dimarzio's Classic PAF. All are excellent sounding pickups that will do the job.

I'll be replacing a 59n in my SG with a VPAF Neck and I'll post my reviews on it.Should be here this week...I do really love the VPAF Hot I now have in the bridge spot.

Re: virtual paf vs jazz

I have had limited experience with the Jazz

but when it comes to smoothness, balanced attack, clarity under high gain, and having that sweet flutey quality for leads in the NECK I would say VPAF.

I will say the Jazz has an open sound and bright attack that only SD falvor can give. However, for all around versatility I take the VPAF over the Jazz. I like the idea of using the BRIDGE model in the neck and getting the VHOT in the bridge or something even thicker than that.

Re: virtual paf vs jazz

thanks
I want something I can flip too and get a pretty clean sound. No channel switching. I know it is not a substitute I like the rolled off volume clean. Which has more output? MIds, bass, treble?
thanks

Re: virtual paf vs jazz

Duncans always have the nice open bass
I always find Dimarzios tighter
duncans sound more "open"

If you are like me and value the ability to get a wicked gain sound and need some nice smooth mids that aren't harsh - VPAF wins. The Jazz is sometimes referred to as "hi fi" sounding.
