vol pots with different resistances

Okay, so normally a volume pot is what, 500? What happens if you put in a 250 or 1K? I remember when I used to hang out on the Marshall amp forums that a 1K makes your guitar sound darker? Just curious. I might need to get a new pot in the future because of a strange issue I'm having that I posted in another thread here.

500k and 250k are common. if you used a 1k pot you would have a very very low output extremly dark tone, nothing usable. if 250k is too bright you could try a 100k but i dont think it would be very good
