Volume and tone control videos

Finally getting around to making some basic guides to choices in guitar electronics arrangements. I filmed a series of six videos, and have the first two up on youtube now. Here's the first, very basic, on differences affected by potentiometer values.

And the second is on the tone control in particular, specifically the pot taper and the capacitor value.

Still in editing are demonstrations of volume pot tapers, treble bleeds, 50's wiring / output loading, and independent vs master volumes. I hope to have these last for up in the next few days if time allows for final editing.

They are not meant to be advanced demonstrations or anything groundbreaking, but rather a relatively simple demonstration within the grasp of any curious player / tinkerer to understand. I'll be sure to post the rest here as I get them finished and uploaded.

Thanks. I built it a few years ago for teaching and demonstration, and to allow for easier experimenting on my own. Here's a glimpse of the inside -

Re: Volume and tone control videos

This is really great, but you need to be more complete in the video descriptions about what you're testing and/or demonstrating in each video and make the titles more descriptive, like "Frequency Analysis of Different Guitar Volume Pots" for the sake of search optimization. If I were searching for this, I would have had no reason to watch your video based on the title, which makes it appear as though you are only going to provide the most basic of information, which is not at all the case.

Re: Volume and tone control videos

Thanks Drex - very good point. I'll go back through the titles and descriptions soon and try to update them with more clear keywords.

And I managed to get #5 uploaded today - coil vs output loading (modern vs 50's wiring).

The last one on master vs independent volume should be up soon.

Great videos. As much as I understand this stuff, a little more info is always good.

Thanks Dave.

Re: Volume and tone control videos

Alright - last one. Independent vs modern wiring.

I probably could have made this one much more concise, but it was last in filming and editing and I was really getting tired (not sure how obviously I was sick and doped up on cold medicines in all these either).

In any case, I hope they're helpful for anyone interested. My work is done on this for a while now, but I'm sure I'll be doing a follow up video or two in a few months for things that I missed. So if they're a anything else you'd suggest, let me know and I'll tuck the ideas away in my recipe box.

Re: Volume and tone control videos

Thank You so much for taking the time out of your day to post these videos for all of us!

Re: Volume and tone control videos

Thank you, mate.
I am waiting for your next release.

Re: Volume and tone control videos

Excellent videos and content. I've only viewed the first and part of the second but the format work great for me, I look forward to watching the rest.

I notice you are in Ann Arbor, I'll have to stop in next time I'm back in town. :)
