Volume bypass switch

Hi, I want to be able to plug the pickup straight to the output jack (because I've heard it gives a little more brightness and power) but I don't want to get completely rid of the volume pot. So I thought it would be possible to have a switch to switch between them, and I tried this:

But the switch doesn't do anything and the volume pot always works. So my question is, is this possible? if yes, how?

Thanks

Re: Volume bypass switch

I believe you'll need a fancier switch where it will have 2 terminals on both sides of the switch. Basicly one switch that acts like 2 switches. That way you can wire one side to the pot and the other straight to the jack. It's the brown and light green wire connected to the blue jack wire in your picture that are causing the issue. You don't want them connected. The switch should be used to create 2 separate circuits. The only thing that they can share is the ground. Hope that helps.

^^^ But even so, using a DPDT switch, both sides of the circuit would still share a jack, and you'd end up with the same problem.

The other thing you could do is have the pickup's output running parallel to the pot and the switch, and you switch the input signal at the SPDT instead of switching the output signals.

I'll draw it up, one sec.

Re: Volume bypass switch

okay, thanks a lot :) but I'm starting to wonder if it sound that different? is it worth the "trouble"?

Re: Volume bypass switch

it'll be very very slightly noticeable, but probably not worth the trouble. if you really want to open up the brightness a bunch, just get a 1 megaohm pot.

Re: Volume bypass switch

Thanks, I tried this today and it worked well, couldn't hear much difference though :P would I hear more difference if the pickup was hotter?
