Volume pedal dilemma

I want to buy a used volume pedal, mostly for Roy Buchanan, Walter Trout styles of volume swells. They do it with their pinky and I'm not quite happy with my pinky when I compare it to Roy's...

I have two options which are priced pretty well:
1. a 250K Ernie Ball (yes, it will be the first pedal in my pedal board).
2. a Morley Power Volume Wah - which is priced very low because the Wah is not working (I already have a wah, so I can live with it).

Considering the fact that the Morley seller is located a lot closer to me geographically (and I can actually trade something for it) it is a MUCH cheaper deal - but I'm a little worried as I also read a few really bad reviews about Morley, while Ernie ball keeps a relatively good record.

As I have no experience with any of the two pedals - I have no idea which one is better (in terms of feel, durability, not causing loss of treble, etc...).

So - Morley or Ernie Ball?

Any experience? tips? preference?

I am a huge Morley fan I have been using them for years. That being said I would go with the Ernie Ball. It sounds like the Morley is already on its way out.

I have two Ernie Ball volume pedals and they are effective, gig-worthy and long-lasting. But I did stop using them because they took a little bit of high end edge off my sound (compared to plugging straight in), enough that I noticed it. But if you need swells or need volume/gain control without changing your guitar settings, they will do the job just fine.

The Ernie Ball is great. I would also pick up the Morley, mainly because I work on such things. I wouldn't get a broken wah if you want something reliable.

Thanks, I'm also leaning for the Ernie Ball... I'm thinking about solutions against 'tone suck'. Mainly a mod or just getting a bypass loop pedal...

I now have an option to buy either the full size Ernie Ball or a Jr. anyone compared them and has a preference?

Also, with the Morley pedal, there's a good chance I'll have enough budget left to send it to a guy that makes mods to my pedals... I think that's the biggest 'plus' as far as the Morley goes.

Any sort of buffer or boost will cure the tone suck. I use a Keeley Katana Boost or Keeley Compressor directly after my EB Volume.

You might also check out the new Dunlop volume pedal, it looks pretty good to me. Don't know about the price, though.

I haven't really noticed any "tone suck" with my Ernie Ball Jr. I don't have any experience with the Morley stuff. My recommendation would be Ernie Ball obviously, but if you are confident in your ability to repair the Morley, go for it. I have bought a number of "broken" pedals on the cheap and repaired them. Just make sure you know what you are getting yourself into first.

By the way, I love the Mrs. Slocombe avatar.

I really wanted to get one of the Dunlops actually - but they are somewhat hard to find here - and expensive. Almost went for the High Gain (the cheaper model) but the guy selling tried to play a trick on me...

Still can't decide though, I might have to sit on it for a week...

Though you didn't mention it in your original post, the Boss fv500h is another nice volume pedal you may want to consider. I use one on my board and i really like it. The action/resistance on the pedal is adjustable to your liking. It also has a tuner out and a minimum volume adjustment. I wear a size 13 shoe found the fv500h perfect as it is a pretty good size for my right foot and has solid construction.

No good options for a Boss pedal so far. I've considered all of them... and spent went too much time browsing and reading and not enough time actually playing... Seems like I'm GASing for one of the less easy to find effects in my country...

If money is an option look at the Dunlop volume pedal. It looks just like a Wah but its a volume pedal. I have one but I don't really use it but it does work fine. I think I paid $39.00 for it new!

My favorite is Visual Volume. With your choices, I'd take the EB.

Got the Morley at the shop. IT was the most convenient option and it is going to become my "beater" volume pedal. For the price I paid, I don't mind doing a few radical experiments with it...

Not sure I'm following the Rocket Hat thingy. :dunno:

Morleys are good. They have a nice buffer built in. Probably worth having a look inside to see if you can fix the wah too.

Smart aleck phone. I was wondering if a rocket HAD gotten you through the Iron Dome. It's good to see you're alive and well.
