Volume pot problem Jackson guitar

My girlfriend has a Jackson DKMGT new from last year. Last week she noticed a problem about her sound. The distortion wasn't really distorted anymore and she had to push the master volume on her amp to 10 to hear the clean channel. I checked that up and I suppose the volume pot is broken. There is no more sound when the volume pot is around 5 and it sounds like it is at 5 when it is at 10.
Do we have to change the volume pot or is it anything else?

I tried her amp with my guitar and it works perfectly so I'm pretty sure the problem is the guitar.

Sounds like it. I've had some issues with the pots in Jackson guitars. A good cleaning or swapping out will get her back in tip-top again.

Ok thanks, anyways I think she is supposed to take it to a luthier tomorow to see what's up.

Cleaning the resistance track with electro lubricant ought to suffice.

If your girlfriend is paying a luthier to replace the suspect pot, she might as well upgrade to a high quality part.

Yeah, the luthier will likely spray it with some switch cleaner and charge you $30. :lol:

Seriously, you should take a look at it yourself - Jackson's are easy to get into generally, so just take the electronics cover off and spray some cleaner in the pot (not too much). Give it a wiggle, see if it fixes it. If not, buy yourself a new one (500K) and take a shot at replacing it yourself.
It'll save you a packet, now and in future.

I have a question about the volume pots as well. I have a Jackson DK2 and the volume level does not seem to gradually rise as I would like it to. it is rather loud at the lowest volume, making it difficult to play quiet passages consistently. Would either of the 250 or 500 be bestir for this purpose?
