Vox AC-15

I'm getting kinda interested in these. If I'm wanting fat, warm distortion (from a pedal), would this be a good amp?

Re: Vox AC-15

i dont think these amps are particularly warm sounding, though they do sound great overdriven. Its more of that middy in your face type overdrive than a warm sound. The highs can be intense.

If your looking at those new ones, I'm still of the opinion that they are too cheaply made and I'd be wary of buying one, but different people value different things.

Re: Vox AC-15

Never played the real thing, but I really dig the model of the AC15 on the AD60VTX valvetronix amp. The reviews say the Valvetronix pretty much nails the vox models, so the real thing must sound similar. It sounds exactly like your description. I keep comming back to it for overdriven blues, even over the tweed bassman model.

Re: Vox AC-15

The new made in China deal?

Bright & shrill come to mind, they're not "warm" and "fat" in the least! I'd almost say they're unusably bright. The first time I played one it melted & spat fire inside of 20-30 minutes. The last two times I played them I had a PRS with a C5 in the bridge, my Tele w/ an Alnico II and my flametop Paul with an Alnico II and even with "cut" all the way off it was STILL waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too bright.

The old UK made AC15's are hipper, the 2x10" model KILLS every time I want that kind of chimy, wraspy tone. I'd trade my AC30 top boost for one of those in a heartbeat if I could ever find one...

Looks like I'm gonna steer clear. What's funny is, running a (soon to be modded) DS-1 into my V-amp's AC-15 model, it gets that big, warm, fat sound I'm looking for.

Maybe I should just go for that Atomic amp.
