You can get some great rock tones out of them, not quite Foo Fighters but still a nice and thick sound. From the various local bands I've seen rocking them, you can't go wrong. But you have to decide if you like that particular Vox chime first.

Great amp (own 2) but for Foo Fighters I would be using a Marshall / Celestion. Certain Orange amps could get there also if you roll the bass off.

Kind of depends on the FF era. I'm not sure what Dave used on the first album; on the tour I've seen footage of him using JCM 900s as well as a DS-1 into a Fender Dual Showman. From the second album until the mid/late 2000s, a Recto is the way to go.

Recto is a good call. When I tried them, they sounded exactly like a '68 Plexi into a '68 1960B cab, which sounds like any/every FF album I've got.

I don’t think AC30 when I think Foo Fighters (Marshall, Mesa come to mind first) - not saying FF haven’t used them though, as the AC30 is often a secret ingredient on many rock records (Muse, for example).
What I would say is to try both the AC30 and AC15 before you buy - depending on how you want to use it, the 15 might give you more tone because the 30 needs to get powerfully LOUD to get things cooking. Though I loved mine, I simply didn’t ever get to play it loud enough, even at gigs.

They only used those amps for clean sounds. Dave stopped using AC-30s live in the early 2000s when they switched from regular Dual Rectos to Road Kings.

I love ac30s but I wouldn't get one for food fighters, maybe a mini rectifier though.

Better to own an AC30 for life than an amp on a whim to emulate someone else who you will outgrow.

ac30s aren't ungodly loud if you use greenbacks. They are real nice.
Pretty heavy, but again, not as ridiculous as people say.
Having said that, try out an ac15 also.
In a perfect world try the ac15 with a greenback but also one with a blue.
Both types of voxes sound great for just about anything. It just comes down to how loud your drummer plays and what sound engineers will let you get away with.

FF have been using these in the studio a lot apparently (based on an interview with DGrohl himself) and Chris Shifflet has been using them a lot live too (Watch the Wasting Light live video back when they release the album and a bunch of other live videos as well).
However, I have to agree that using "just" an AC30 by yourself to get their tone is going to be challenging.
