Vox AC30CC

What do you guys think of the custom classics? I have been contemplating getting one to be my medium gain amp. How much gain does this thing have available? I'm not really worried about it sounding as good as a "real" AC30 or not as long as it sounds good and has useable tones. Can it do some hard rock/light metal stuff if I throw a tubescreamer in front of it? Thanks.

Re: Vox AC30CC

Joe, do you know if the AC30CC a big step up from the AC15CC? The 15 I tried sounded so-so, and it looked and felt like it was put together by one-armed children.

Re: Vox AC30CC

I have the luxury of owning 2 vintage 1x12 fender cabs with original alnico speakers in them thanks to my father. I'm waiting for the Krank Rev Jr to come out so I can see if it is waht it says it is. If not I'm going to go with the AC30CC.

Re: Vox AC30CC

I love the tones of the Vox AC30CC amps. I haven't had the opportunity to compare with older incarnations, but I was totally impressed with these amps. The distortion is not much, but it has a great dynamic. For a fullfilling hard rock tone, adding a pedal works well, but it still sounds cool to me if only a little fuzziness is added.

I love those amps. I've been playing 6 knob MV marshall's for years and I want a CC30 head. I cranked one up through a greenback loaded 4x12 and it absolutely roared with awesome vintage hard rock flavor. I compared it to a JCM800 that was next to it and it held it's own easily, was $500 less than the used JCM800 and had reverb and tremolo. Plus it can get those "chimey" cleaner tones that the Marshall can't. I want one!!!

I really like them. I intend to pick up a used head when I see one down here. They're a screaming deal even new.

Re: Vox AC30CC

My experiences have been similar to Joelaps...

Had one die on the floor at GC... was playing for maybe 30 minutes when it fizzled out with a burning smell. Dead.

Guy in a band I was producing about a year & half ago had one up & die in the middle of the record. Was working & sounding pretty good for the first week & a half but started doing a motorboat thing which lead to lights but no sound. Never found out what the cause was... the amp was only a few weeks or months old?

Shortly after the AC15CC's came out I played a 1x12 at Guitarget when the motorboat thing happened, followed VERY shortly by all sound cutting in & out, then it CAUGHT FIRE!!!

Flames & smoke shooting out of the top vent!

Numbnutz there asked me if I wanted him to pull another out of the back...

Whoever said they feel like they were assembled by one-armed children, that's pretty much on the money.

Sad.

Really sad.

My made in the UK mid-90s AC30 has been chuggin' along (knock on wood!) with nary a problem.

So much for off-shoring...
