Vox Buffer - Please Be On The Lookout

My Vox Valve Effects Loop Buffer crapped out on me last night. It has been a vital part of my rig and my sound for 11 years. It was in production in the 90s, but Vox no longer makes them.

What it does is it allows regular stomp boxes to be used in the effects loop of an amplifier. I need it for a few Ibanez pedals I've had since the 80s. It brings the pedals up to line level in the effects loop. Full details here:

If you should see one, or know of a substitute, please let me know. I'm trying to get mine fixed but the local repair wizards aren't open on weekends.

Thanks.

That is a very interesting device that just gave me A LOT of ideas *maniacal laugh*.

Keep us updated on what you find out. I'll keep my eyes peeled for another one.

Re: Vox Buffer - Please Be On The Lookout

I bet Mr. "RatherDashing" could whip something up like that. He has the skills...

Re: Vox Buffer - Please Be On The Lookout

What he said. Pop the hood on that MF'r and let see what's going on in there. From what I've read on it, it's basically a tube buffer. It can't be all that complicated. You might just need a new preamp tube.

Re: Vox Buffer - Please Be On The Lookout

it's not like you have tons of knobs, the circuit can't be too difficult. pop it open and check it out.

Re: Vox Buffer - Please Be On The Lookout

Yeah we get the not a tons of knobs, how hard can it be, in a steady steam;)
People who fool around in stuff they have no buisness to poke around in....
Get a tech to check it out!

Re: Vox Buffer - Please Be On The Lookout

I tried swapping the preamp tube, that didn't help. All the internal wiring appears to be intact.

I know my own limits when it comes to electronics. I can wait for a qualified tech to check it out, or for another one to appear on eBay...

Re: Vox Buffer - Please Be On The Lookout

Thanks, Blix. I have been on the Ceriatone site, and the C-lator looks like it will do the job. We'll call that Plan B if I can't get the Vox fixed locally.

It's got to be the tube version, like the Vox. The extra warmth and texture from that device is the stuff.
