Vox in a box?

Anyone know of any manufacturers that offer a low to mid gain OD pedal that sounds like an AC30 or Matchless' DC30?

I really dig the Fender and Marshall tones my Rivera puts out, but I've always been a big fan of class A amps on the verge of break up.

So, is there anything out there that'll get me that sweet, chimey kerrang without having to buy an additional amp?

Re: Vox in a box?

What "Class A" Vox??
One of them small one output tube ones??
:D

Nah, man. One of the slightly bigger, 4 output tube ones. :)

Thanks for the suggestions. I hadn't even heard of the Cooltron. Definately one to check out, methinks.

Re: Vox in a box?

Yeah its odd what people call class A...

my galaxie 10 is class A...

my old traynor YCV was def. not class A.

Re: Vox in a box?

He's not trying to be funny. It's a technical term. My old Epiphone Valve Jr. was class A, but my main amp is AB1, I think.

Re: Vox in a box?

Slightly off-topic but the whole class a term being wrong gets annoying when manufacters keep calling them class A (check vox laney matchless etc) ... Shouldn't they not be allowed to do that if they are truely class A/B.

Re: Vox in a box?

Yeah, sorry about that. Because I have one I like to assume every one knows what that stands for :)

No problem, bro. All it took was a second on google and I found it. Seems very interesting; twin channels AND a boost function.

I dig the specs. Now, if it sounds the part, I'm sold.

Re: Vox in a box?

the guy who posts replies on behalf of proguitarshop on their youtube demos reckons the cooltron 'over the top boost' pedal is pretty much a vox in a box

Re: Vox in a box?

Not really a pedal, but the Vox tonelab does some ACxx things pretty well.

It's too long ago that I had an AC30, so I can't directly compare, but I'd say this is the Tonelab's strong point.

Yeah, I was going to mention that Carl Martin AC Tone pedal.

The main reason I bought the Vox ToneLab was for the Vox amp models. I've played some Vox amps, and I've had this ToneLab for a few years, but I haven't played side by side. I wouldn't say the ToneLab makes any amp automatically sound like the real thing, but the variety of sounds which can be squeezed out if that thing is amazing.

Re: Vox in a box?

There's a new line of pedals out from Tech 21 called the "Character" series with one called the "Liverpool" which is suppose to be a "Vox in a box." Have'nt actually tried it out myself but there are some demo's on You Tube. Offhand I think it sounds pretty good.
