Vox, Matchless and Bad Cat in a box.

Re: Vox, Matchless and Bad Cat in a box.

It doesn't come that easy, bro. I'd like to say yes, but I can't. That's why folks pay big bucks for badass tube amps. The amp is your base tone, and pedals tweak that tone.

What are you using for an amp right now?

Re: Vox, Matchless and Bad Cat in a box.

I've owned a couple of matchless floor based preamps. The big hunk o' metal kind. If you run of of those thru the return channel of a decent tube amp, you can get some serious tones.

Cheapest way to get there IMO. But i think both matchless and badcat are a lot more expensive and harder to come by in europe.

Sorry dude I hate when people ask the kind of questions I did. i just didn't have a whole lot of time before. I really just would like to know if there is a pedal that "tries" to do this. It's almost like buying a Marshall Plexi (like) pedal to make my Vibrolux sound like a Plexi. It does what it does, but in the end it really doesn't sound much like a Plexi.

Hehehehe... By the way I have a BadCat already! It rules!

I am just curious what's out there that tries to do this ya know.

I'd say check w/ Rid. His PlexiTone might do the trick. Then there's the highly sought-after Marshall Shredmaster made famous by Jonny Greenwood of Radiohead.

Greg, just play fourteen different amps and be done with it.

Re: Vox, Matchless and Bad Cat in a box.

The Fulltone OCD is a good Marshall in a box sound. Actually, might be closer to what you are looking for because it sounds a lot lot like a Vox also if you tweak it right. I saw the video clip on the ZVEX Box of Rock and was really impressed with the way it mimicked a cranked JTM45 with the two channels bridged. Check that one out, I think I'll be getting that soon... Not a big fan of ZVEX stuff, but the Box of Rock looks pretty sweet.

Re: Vox, Matchless and Bad Cat in a box.

There is Rid's AC-Tone pedal, which is supposed to sound like a Vox AC30. Sounds pretty good from the clips I've heard, the tone of it kind of reminded me of Rory Gallagher when Rid was playing single coils.

Who makes this pedal, i want one!

Re: Vox, Matchless and Bad Cat in a box.

I also suggest searching for it, and listening to some of Rids clips with it.

Re: Vox, Matchless and Bad Cat in a box.

While B is asking, how about a Bogner pedal also. :)

I think Bogner is in the development stage of coming out with a new Bogner pedal, the Fango.

As for Vox type tone, there's Menatone Top Boost in a Can.
Also, do a search on here for a Matchless Cool Box. I think there's a forum member trying to sell one.

Re: Vox, Matchless and Bad Cat in a box.

I'd like to try Bad Cat's X-treme tone, boost/preamp pedal.

Has anyone any opinion of this, other than the price?

Matchless Hot Box or Cool Box for AC-30/Top Boost
Badcat makes a 2-Tone pedal, but not sure what it sounds like
Carl Martin AC-Tone

Get one of each & have them by next Wednesday :D

Re: Vox, Matchless and Bad Cat in a box.

although i've never played a Matchless or Bad Cat...i'm telling you the AC-Tone is one sweet pedal...of course mine also has a Plexi side to it so it just burns ya from every direction!!!
