Re: Vox Nightrain G2 vs Mesa Boogie DC-3
I have a DC-3 112 V30 combo, and I love it.
Two channels; the CLEAN channel is based on the Mark IV's design, and the LEAD channel on the Rectifier. Separate EQ and reverb level controls for each channel, Switchable graphic EQ can be always on or track with the LEAD channel. Parallel FX loop with blend control. Just tremendous tonal versatility. The Dyna-Watt power is rated at 35-watts, but is very dynamic...hangs with 50-watters. Sounds warm at low volume, yet it can really rip. Loud drummer? No problem.
Wide range of gain, from chime-y cleans to pushed blues to metal-ish grind. Can make any guitar sing like Santana's. Amp is typical Mesa with a strong mid-range voice. Lows are deliberately curtailed, but I use a 112 EVM Thiele cab with mine and it adds back the low-end.
Like all Mesas, totally professional build quality and features. Substantial weight, but not that of a Mark IV or Twin Reverb. Think .45 caliber pocket gun.
The EL-84s have a more rounded tone than the 6L6s I'm used to, so it took a bit for me to adapt to the DC-3, but once I did, I fell in love.
Be sure to check out the Owner's Manual on the Mesa website. These amps are not the kind where you just turn every knob to 10.
Me...I'd make this trade in a heartbeat.
