Can anyone tell me what the tonal differences are between these two Clyde based wahs? What are the Pro's and Con's of each? The reviews on harmony central seem to say that the Vox's have some reliability issues with them. Do you feel it's true? Do you think the Teese is worth the extra cash over the Vox?

Thanks!

Re: Vox V848 vs. Teese Picture wah

out of the box, for the extra $25, no question - the RMC1 is better! Fat, vocal tone, and fun to play. If you use humbuckers, the Wizard Wah is the way to go.

for the difference in price, you're getting a hand made wah

I have a modded 848 that sounds terrific too, and I can use with humbuckers, but my RMC1 is the "go to" wah for strats

BTW, the RMC has a boosted circuit, but that works well with single coils

Re: Vox V848 vs. Teese Picture wah

Curly,
Thanks for the info! I'm looking for something to work good with both single coil, and humbucker guitars. What kind of mods did you do to your 848 and why? What was the tone like before being modded? I know looks should'nt matter as much as tone and function, but I really dig the Vox look over the RMC or Fulltones, and I'm leaning toward the Vox just on that right now. :smack: :) You think the Teese Picture wah is worth the extra $85 over the V848?

Thanks!

Re: Vox V848 vs. Teese Picture wah

Stratdeluxer modded my 848 with upgraded components, a Fulltone pot, and Fasel inductor
why?
TONE
the surgery is not cheap, however, since the pot & inductor alone are pricey
I don't really recall the tone before much, since I bought it off ebay specifically to mod, and sent it right to John

I can't comment on the Picture Wah, since I haven't played one, but it's a vintage voiced wah. Stratdeluxer preferred his own modded 847 for the tone, though

Re: Vox V848 vs. Teese Picture wah

Does'nt the 848 come with it's own Fasel inductor? I thought I read that somewhere.

Re: Vox V848 vs. Teese Picture wah

If you really want an incredible wah for strats, check out the Teese Wheels of Fire wah and the Pro Analog Supa Quack (which I own and am never going to sell for the life of me)

there are two types

So there are two v848 Clyde Mccoy's? One with a fasel, and one with something else?

Re: Vox V848 vs. Teese Picture wah

The problem I've always had with Vox's is the lack of true bypass, which shaves the high end off. Is that still the case with the V848? I just went for the Fulltone Clyde deluxe mint/used for $220 and never looked back.

sorry - two types of fasels

I honestly can't remember if the 848 is true bypass or not ... Stratdeluxer knows. He modded both a 847 and 848 for me, and I can't remember if the 848 needed bypass or not. :(

bypass is a fairly easy fix though, compared to the other surgery John did

Re: Vox V848 vs. Teese Picture wah

I just checked, and the 848 is true bypass. Still not totally sure if it really comes with a fasel inductor though. If anyone knows for sure, please let me know. :)
