Re: VOX VR Series Amps
I went to GC and played with them today. They're surprisingly quiet comparing to a lot of other amps including solid state ones, but they are pretty loud when played. I compared them to some 60 watt and 100 watt amps and I considered the Vox amps adequate. They must have some high sound pressure level speakers. Like Minameismudd said, they're clean, they can get really bright and they can get really warm too. They would also respond if pushed and the speakers did break up nicely. However, I'm not too hot about the distortion channel, not that it's no good, but because I don't use distortion that much, I can't tell the difference and I have no preference. I have also heard better reverbs, but for $149, it is probably OK. I ended up taking the VR30 home because I liked its sound better than the VR15. I'm not looking for a special tone from this amp, but I had tried the Gibson LP Studio, the Gibson SG, E335, the Fender Deluxe Tele and Fender Strat on it because I do use these guitars and they did sound good. I also could get a wide range of tone adjustment. I consider it a good practice amp and I can probably use it to gig in a small venue.
