Vox vs. Line 6 Valve

I've played the Line 6 Valve amp several times now and i must say that i'm not that impressed. i mean it's a nice amp and a nice sound, but i don't think it's great. even after several trials, it still sounds like a pod into a tube amp.

i guess vox is going to come up with their own competing line as they seem to be lacking something in between their tube amps and their modeling amps, IMO. personally, i think a vox modeling valve would be superior to the line 6 valve. i love the tone of vox hybrid amps and i think it would be superb if they put that into some new tube amps.

what do you guys think? would vox rule line 6 with a competing product?

Re: Vox vs. Line 6 Valve

Right now, I prefer the Vox Valvetronix amps over anything Line 6. The models sound and feel more real to me. The touch response is there, the smoothness is there, the warmth is there. And for someone like me who prefers to stick with simplicity, the Valvetronix are as simple as it gets when it comes to modeling amps. I love the sounds I can get out of the AD50VT.

Re: Vox vs. Line 6 Valve

Vox has had a competing line with their Valvetronix stuff. AFAIK that line is due to be updated though with some more modern amp models. Don't know if they're out yet.

i don't really see valvetronics as a competing line. line6 has manufactured a pretty good quality modeling all-tube amp while vox is still with its hybrid modeling amps. when vox comes out with a better tube amp than their ac stuff and adds modeling, then i think that's more like it.

let me clarify though. i like the line6 bogner. it's a nice amp and seems pretty well made. the tone is very nice, but to me it's only a slight improvement over plugging a pod xt into a tube amp. it's a nice amp and a great price, so i won't complain about it. i just think that vox could do better as far as tone is concerned if they built a similar product.

Re: Vox vs. Line 6 Valve

When I wrote the review of the Spider Valve on here, I was taking into consideration it's price point, and also it's value to a player that needs a lot of versatility. For what it is, it's really not a bad amp. Everyone judges complicated amps by a 10 minute trial at stores, and you can't do that with modeling amps. I'm quite sure I could spend a week with any higher end modeler and find perfectly useable tones.

That said, I still realize I like my Valvetronix AD60VHT head more than any other modeler.
I even like the Vox heads more than the Vetta or Flextone heads. To me, they just sound more tubey, and less stale.

I've been eagerly awaiting a top of the line Valvetronix product, and wonder what's going on???? They already discontinued the best modelers they make, so they'd better have something new coming out in 08. For me personally, I'd like to see them make a new Valvetronix II offering, whether it has power tubes or not. I just want a Vox that's as sophisticated as the Vetta II......at a price that's in between the VT and Vetta....like $800.

Re: Vox vs. Line 6 Valve

I think if they wanted to do Hybrid/modeling right they need to simplify.

Tubes+modeling+effects loop+quality reverb. None of the garbage effects they include. Just make it a simple to use modeler that has controls of a straight forward amp.

Re: Vox vs. Line 6 Valve

hell, i'd like to see a valvetronics made into an all-tube amp with a little less top end than their ac amps.

Re: Vox vs. Line 6 Valve

Yeh it would be interesting to see that but it seems VOX have started concentrating on Higher End Valve amps then their Custom Classics as well as adding new slightly changed Valvetronix amps. So it will be interesting to see what they do next as they seem to be tackling other big manufacturers in all departments of amp building while keeping everything very VOX which I personally think is very good.
