Wacked out Distortion Problem

I have a old Distortion, no model number on it has wooden spacers

worked fine in guitar it came in, but I pulled it to stick in another and it had extremely low output

I pulled it to find it read .1K...I checked it before install and it was 13K

each coil by itself tests fine

I found the black wire was shorted to the bare wire

I took it apart which I hated to do as it was original tape...one of the small tapes covering the small wires was half off, so I fixed that, short was gone, back to 13K...

I install, fire it up....same problem again, unhook it...reads .1k

again, black shorted to bare...

I pulled the whole harness out....no shorts

unhooked each individual coil and now I have one coil that is open??

that was strange and I havent seen it before, it would be fine until amped up, then it would short???

now its got a dead coil...
