Wah-Wah Pedals Anyone?

Hey guys,
the next piece of gear im going to buy is a proper Wah-Wah pedal (how can you be a guitarist without having a good wah? j/k)

anyway im in the process of checking as many pedals as i can, so i'd end up with the one i like most.
anyway, i need some recommendations concerning which one do you think would fit the job please

let me first try to describe the sound i wanna get with it...
i like a wah sound with a long sweep and good range, no "quack" - it is evil(!), should have good presence and definition but still more of a rounded sound to it, so as the highs would ring well but wont sound harsh and ice-picky (important).
it would be used in hi-gain settings for the most part, but it should sound kick ass in any settings (hey if they sound good clean, they'll sound good heavy right?).
cosmetically i dont realy mind as long as the pedal is smooth working and durable.
im not looking after a boutique type of pedal, i need something affordable that is as close as possible to what i described above.
(im new to the wah market - bear with me) :blackeye:

i'd realy love to hear comments

thanks! :burnout:

Re: Wah-Wah Pedals Anyone?

For a long sweep and versatility, I'd most definitally say the Dimebag Crybaby (CFH) or the Dunlop 535Q wah.

Re: Wah-Wah Pedals Anyone?

thanks bro

btw how do you guys reckon the Snarling Dogs wah pedals are? i tried the Wonder Wah 2 and it was nice

no man, it has a much wider sweep in comparison to the Crybaby's.

So it's a Dunlop with a wider sweep.

Either way, it still sounds like a Dunlop.

Ditto, both are true bypass as well and you can change the shape of the sweep, balance the frequencies, and give a general db boost to the entire signal. Very cool pedals!

What do you guys think of the Dunlop GCB-95Q? From what I've read it's a normal 95 with Q, +15db boost, and a auto-off (when you lift your foot) added. I've never been able to find one to try though.....

Re: Wah-Wah Pedals Anyone?

I have a Budda wah and that ain't what you want. It's a good quack wah. wacka chacka wacka chacka.

I also have a Teese wah that is the ****. It boosts the volume a hair, which on high gain adds a little thickness. I forget which model but there are not extra knobs on it. I hate that ****, too many choices and I always forget where it was set last.

When i was gigging a lot, the Teese wha cut thru the mix well but sounded thick too. I trimmed the rubber feet to give more range as well.

From what I have heard this is the one. Obviously there are a lot of different sounds out there for different type of players. From what I have heard this is very Hendrix like. I have not been able to find one, but haven't looked very hard. I like the one I use now. I use a Vox Clyde McCoy model. I also have a vintage Crybaby, and a standard Vox Crybaby. I use the Clyde McCoy most. It sounds good but it doesn't have that Hendrix thing.... to me that is the sound!!

Re: Wah-Wah Pedals Anyone?

Bad Horsie 2... works great under high gain... wah with a modern feel which sounds like what you want (no quack). It also has a contour knob to tweak the tone and it's light activated so there is no pot to crap out on you over time (very cool) and it's affordable brand new. Don't buy until you check this one out. By the way, check it out at the volume you'll be using it with. A lot of people are afraid to crank when they go to stores and find it's completely different when they get it home.

Good luck!

By the way... I like the vintage Wah tone myself so I got the Fulltone Clyde Deluxe and I absolutely love it... but if I wanted a more modern tone then I'd definitely get the BH2 over all the rest!

Re: Wah-Wah Pedals Anyone?

I use a Morley Bad Horsie 2.... but the original Bad Horsie's are also too cool.

No switches, no pots... it turns off when you take your foot off it, and there will never be any crackle due to damaged pots as it using optical swtiches. Very good.

Excellent range on it, and i've been got the 'icepick' treble from it, it seems far more vocal than usual pedals. The bad horsie 2 has the addition of level and contour controls... so you can get a clean boost for wah-solos, and you can change the character of the wah too.

Don't be put off by the fact that it's Steve Vai's signature wah...

The 'Bad Horsie' Wah, $100;
