Walnut SG

Anybody own one and have an opinion? Played one the other day and really liked it. Seemed a little trebly, but it wasn't my rig so maybe not the guitar. How different from mahogany is walnut?

Re: Walnut SG

Walnut is a strange wood. I've heard it sound amazing in one guitar, and terrible in others. It certainly looks wonderful. It is harder and denser than mahogany, so it will be brighter and heavier. It is a wood that you have to be particular about the pickups with- it doesn't really like bright sounding pickups.

Re: Walnut SG

That's kind of what I figured. I've only ever seen one in person once, played it, liked it, had reservations. Guess I'll have to continue admiring from afar.
Thanks

Re: Walnut SG

I had a Walnut San Dimas Strat–heavy and amazing wood grain. The Dimebucker sounded best in it–but a Screamin Demon also sounded good. It responded very similar to Mahogany but was brighter.

Problem with Walnut is how hard it is to cut and shape...
