Wanna have my lead 12 modded

I think I'm gonna have my lead 12 Marshall combo modded such that I can either use the internal speaker, an extension cab, both, or just two external ones for a baby stack. Basically add two 1/4 inch jacks for two speakers, and add a male 1/4 inch end coming off the internal speaker wire. SS can handle going down to 4 ohms right? I want to hear it through a 12 inch speaker dimed but also push more air for good times.

Anyone else mod theirs like this?

I added a 1/4" jack and plug to my Roland Cube 20X so I can plug it into a bigger cab...Mono at 4 ohms.

Re: Wanna have my lead 12 modded

On a solid state amp, if you reduce the load by 50%, you double the output of the amp. Your amp MAY be able to handle the extra dissipation...then again, it may not.

When you cook the output transistors in a SS amp, the failure usually cascades forward and wipes out a lot more of the amp and sometimes even takes out the power supply.

It's perfectly safe to INCREASE the load on a SS amp but DECREASING it is a total crap shoot.

ah - probably best if I just do one 1/4 speaker out so I can use either the internal speaker or a 12" extension cab (I only have 8-ohm speaker cabs, like the combo's internal). I guess it would work if I had two 16-ohms (both together coming down to 8 ohms) but that ain't happening.
