wanna switch from the jb/59 combo

Ive had this combo in my Esp eclipse since I bought it and ive just never fallen in love with the JB. Yes I realize its the tried and true go to for most metal but for me it at times can seem very ice picky. I want something more organic because I play a bit of everything. I do like the 59. it sometimes can seem a little boomy but with the right tweaking ive found some very nice tones from it. That being said I just wanna try something different. I play through a solid state Randall. Yes I know the die hard tube guys are gonna make some faces at that but I truly love solid state. I play a lot of classic rock and metal. everything from Def Leppard to dio to halestorm to crobot. So id like something with some versatility. Nice organic warm clean tones yet be able to dirty up pretty good. I don't play a lot of modern metal these days. Think more of the old school flavors of metal. Ive considered trying a custom custom and also a Dimarzio super distortion. I'm open to any other suggestions you guys may have. I emailed dimarzio and their tech suggested the Dominion with a 36th anniversary paf at the neck. Ive wanted to try the paf for a long time but I'm questioning if the Dominion is really the right choice for the bridge. I should note that I wanna stay away from super expensive boutique pickups.

A Custom Custom (SH-11) is warm with a great organic feel, thanks to the A2 magnet. If you want to get more in the PAF range, A Slash or A2P would be good choices (also have A2's).

Depends upon who u ask. When I say def leppard I mean from the first four albums. So yeah that's classic to me

If you like the 59's , swap the A5 mag to a UOA5 .
Takes the boomy low end and thin top end of the 59 tones out and makes the 59's a real winner imo .
Also if you need a hot 59B PAF tone , slide a A8 mag in it and stand back .
Fat balanced tones while keeping the PAF vibe , very similar to the old Super 70's pickups from the late 70's .

The custom custom would be cool but it might accentuate the boomy nature of the '59 but maybe not.

The '59/Custom hybrid is what will work for what you want and will blend really well with the '59 in the neck.

I find the JBs midrange to be buttery and liquid. The '59/Custom hybrid will give you the midrange presence that you need for maximum versatility while still having some characteristics of vintage power humbuckers.

The Custom Custom would be quite different than the JB. It is one of my favorites, The cleans aren't really open like a Custom, but they don't have that upper mid thing like the JB. You might also look at the 59/Custom Hybrid and a Whole Lotta Humbucker set.

Re: wanna switch from the jb/59 combo

Thanks guys. I have a custom custom coming for another project. I may drop it in there and try it out. I'm also very intrigued by the 59/custom hybrid

You also might try getting some A2 magnets, I really like the JB with an A2 magnet, I think Seymour mentioned somewhere that is his favorite too. It will be very similar to the custom shop RTM pickup.

I really like the Custom and CC too. The C5 is too scooped for me, or at least in the guitar I tried it in.
