Want to end my tone journey... last year.

Well all. I have been away from the forum here for many moons. I probably remember only a few of you besides Reverend Donzo who made a big impression on me long ago. Still here, man?

The Question:

I have a Schecter Blackjack PT that came stock with a 59 neck and a JB. I thought this combo was way too bright. The guitar is supposedly mahogany and I have heard that this wood is both dark and bright. My particular guitar is very bright. Anyhow. I decided to sell the set and move on. I put a V7 and a V8 that I thought sounded awesome until I realised that I had them wired for split and up loud they had hum. Gone...

Next up was a set of cheap Jackson pickups that had no screw poles and had the Jackson logo on them. Great sound. Looked bad but sounded good. I changed them out for a set of EMG Passive H4 based on looks only. The Jacksons are gone. I am not feeling the H4s after a week.

I was looking at getting a Jazz JB combo, but the JB is way too bright. I had the Distortion in my basswood Omen 6 and loved the crap out of it, but that guitar was way more dark..

I am selling the EMGs or returning them this week so I am thinking of getting the Jazz neck like I wanted in the first place (I really wanted the nickel covered one not available in my area without special order).

Do any of you still reading think I'd like a 59 bridge any better than the JB. I'll admit the JB is one of my most favorite duncans, but it is not right for this guitar at all. If I do 250K pots it will screw up my rig as I use push - pull pots for series and parallel switching of each pickup.

I am thinking I should have not been such a dip and just used my dang tone knob.

I find myself using the tone knob more with the JB than with any other pickup. I usually don't touch it. I think a lot of people forget they have one! :6:

I had a covered JB for a time and I found it was a bit more mellow. Maybe you should look into that option.

Also, you should have no problem finding 250k push/pull pots. Plenty of retailers here that may be able to hook you up.

250k pots work pretty well with the Jazz/JB set. That's what they were originally designed to do.
