Want to use Custom Custom in HSS setup - what singles do you recommend?

I have a Patrick Eggle which has a HSS using a Custom Custom and 2 SSL-1s - love these pickups in this particular guitar (it uses a super switch type 5 way - so only the neck pup position isn't hum cancelling .... but the neck SSL-1 is so good sounding it's worth having chance of some noise)

Now I want to build a new set of pups into a different HSS guitar - strat type, basswood body, one piece maple neck - pickups scratchplate mounted and Floyd Rose.

I want to use the Custom Custom Trembucker in the bridge because I love the mojo of it based on my other guitar ...... but this time I'm thinking to try out something different in the middle and neck singles.

Maybe keep the middle pup single for quacking on pos 2 and 4 and use a single sized hb in neck? Do single sized HBs split nicely (for middle/neck pos 4)? If so - what pickups and what sort of 5 way switch do I need?

Any advice most welcome.

You can't go wrong with Seymour Duncan. Their website help you to select the right pickups based on your guitar specs, and you can also listen to any pickup they have.

I like either the Classic Stack Plus or the Five Two with my Custom Custom. If I am using a humbucker though, I try to make all positions hum-cancelling. To some people, that isn't as important.

Get a Jazz neck with it, and put them both in a Les Paul.

Yeah single size hbs are awesome. I have 2 of them in a basswood strat with maple neck with C8 in the bridge! A Lil 59 and JB Jr. Or you could put a SSL2 in the middle and auto split the neck and bridge humbuckers. I've heard that sound good on demos.

I prefer a true single over a single sized HB that is split in basswood with a Floyd. Something a bit hotter and with more inductance than an SSL-1 in the middle position could help position 4 keep more body. Seymour Duncan models I'd consider for the neck spot would include the JB Jr. Neck, Hot Rails Neck or Cool Rails Bridge.

If you want to get something different from the single spots I would look into a Satch Track in the neck and a Cruiser Bridge in the middle.

So ... a Cool Rails Bridge in the neck spot? Is that just to add some extra bite due to the Basswood/FR spec? I was actually liking what I heard from the Cool Rails on the SD site audio player.

Well, the Cool Rails doesn't really sound like a single coil- more like a single sized version of the Jazz humbucker. It is a cool sound, but different if you are expecting the attack and feel of a single coil.

It is to help compensate for the very narrow aperture and low inductance of a split single-sized humbucker. As an ingredient to cop full-sized single coil quack in position 4, splitting a single-sized HB is a pipe dream.

A Floyd doesn't help matters either, of course.

I use David Allen 69 Voodoo singles with a CustomCustom bridge.
