Warehouse Guitar Speakers

I'm tired of the Celestion G12T-75s in my cab. They sound so thin and the bottom end is just flubby. I want a speaker with some balls and good mids. Right now with my JVM my main issue is that the bottom end is a little loose feeling and because of the scooped character of the 75 it just feels like the amp has no voice. I've been thinking of Warehouse speakers but am not sure of what to get yet. Basically I want tight and beefy lows, a better midrange than the G12T-75, and some good presence. My general sound is high gain Marshall crunch that sounds huge and aggressive.

Reaper HP 50W - Sounds like a good option. It has the higher wattage I want and is supposed to have some balls to it but I'm afraid it might be too warm. I heard some people saying that. With my JVM I cant really stand to have a a speaker that is too smooth on the highs.

Retro 30 75W - Once again sounds good and has higher wattage but It's a Vintage 30 clone. It not going to have the icepick highs the Vintage 30 has from what I hear but for some reason I have this whole Idea that the Vintage 30 has no balls to it and just cuts through the mix with lots of mids and a tight but not very large bass response. I know a lot of metal guys use them but IDK I just seem to have that mindset towards them.

Those are the two speakers I'm interested in and I'd really appreciate it if some of you guys had something to say. If anyone honestly thinks that the Reaper HP 50W has good presence then I'd be all over it because thats the speaker I'm really interested in. I'm just afraid that since the Reaper 30W is warmer than the Celestion G12H30 and the Reaper HP 50W is warmer than the Reaper 30W then how damned warm is the thing? It makes me scared it will be too smooth for my liking.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Warehouse Guitar Speakers

Yeah Ive thought about it but Im anal about tone and by that I mean a venue wont mic out both speaker types just one so they wont be really getting my tone. They will be micing a speaker that my amp isnt dialed into specifically but is dialed into that speaker and another speaker combined. Know what I mean? Maybe that sounds goofy but Im sure Im not the only person whos thought into it that much.

Re: Warehouse Guitar Speakers

you need 2 eminence swamp thangs in there, great bottom end and will smooth out the JVM high end. I hated the g12's then I had greens was better. Then traded the JVM in 7 months later, never was really that satisfied. Engl was the best on i had so far but i down sized for now.

Re: Warehouse Guitar Speakers

I would suggest Eminence Tonespotters but they are unfortunately only available in 8ohm. Great G12-65 clones though

Eminence Wizard /end thread.

Swamp Thangs would pump your lows, for sure, but I don't think the rest of the ST is what you're looking for.

Re: Warehouse Guitar Speakers

Yeah people say the JVM has harsh highs and I used to be one of them but right now with some of the minor mods and tube swaps (odd since the tubes I use are Tung-Sol 6550s which dont have too much presence but are 6550s nonetheless and Tung-Sol 12AX7s which are really aggressive) the JVM isnt ear piercing anymore and I run my highs and presence at about 3 o'clock which never went past noon before. The last thing I want is a speaker with subdued highs since I dont have much more high end and presence on tap.

Re: Warehouse Guitar Speakers

Veteran 30's and ET-65's, I have these in an X pattern in my cab with a JVM and it does warm up the tone but using the EQ on the amp you can brighten it up if you like. This combo is pretty mid heavy though, it will come down to your personal taste.
