Warm, low-output Strat-sized single coil for neck pos?

I'm looking at the Cool Rails and Dimarzio's Pro Track right now. Any thoughts on a nice, warm but articulate single-coil sized humbucker for a neck position? Pairing it with a slightly hotter than vintage tele bridge pickup in a junky plywood guitar.

The Cool Rails is more open than warm..think of it like a Jazz humbucker in a single coil size. The Little 59 is actually warmer-sounding.

Ah, very good to know, thank you. I'll knock Cool Rails off my list. How does the little 59s output work with a bridge single coil? Pretty okay to get a good volume match?

Re: Warm, low-output Strat-sized single coil for neck pos?

The Lil 59 neck isn't terribly high output. I have one with a Suhr V60LP bridge pickup that is wound to 7.2k ohm. The bridge S/C pickup is set high to get more output than the lil 59 neck.

The lil 59 is designed to work with a 250k ohm volume pot, where as the Pro track needs 500k.

If you want warm go with the antiquity jaguar. It's round, bassy, and has amazing depth of tone. Sounds great for rhythm or lead.

You might have to play with the height, but it will probably work. It helps with a slightly higher output bridge single.

I agree.

To my ears, the Little 59 sounds nothing like its big brother. It doesn't sound mid scooped and it is very warm with lots of mids.

Uh...no. Put the Lil 59 through a 250 pot and you'll get lots of muddy/wet-blanket sounding tones. It is already a warm middy pup with soft rounded highs.

I find it curious that your title says you are looking for a "Strat-sized single coil" pup. But your post says you're looking for a Strat-sized humbucker. I hope you know the difference.

I do know the difference, just screwed up my thread title. :boggled: A single-coil sized (Strat dimensions) humbucking pickup is what I'm looking for.

That's what I assumed, but I have found that it is dangerous to assume anything.

I'm was confused like Guitardoc!

All the Dmz track series look like excellent choices.

How about the stks4 Classic Stack? It sounds like a signle coil and doesnt hum.

If you figure that a SL59-1n is going to be too warm and round, you can consider the Dimarzio Cruiser DP186. Personally I think of the Cruiser as being a very under-wound PAF pickup. However you generally need to use 500k volume and tone pot. Maybe for a Tele the cruiser would be a nice choice with 375k volume pot, as Fender has used in some of the Tele custom guitars. The SL59-1n is warmer when you use it with 250k controls, compared to the Cruiser using 500k volume and tone pots. I suggest using a very small treble bleed cap with the Cruiser if you want it to sound more like a strat.

I like both the Cruiser and SL59-1n. If the guitar is HSS and using 500k controls, then I prefer the cruiser. Otherwise the SL59-1n with a 250k volume pot has fantastic tone both clean and with overdrive.

This is one of my favorite Strat pickups, but I don't really think of it as warm. It still has that bell-like piano thing going on like a great Strat pickup should, though.
