Warming up to jb tone...

The first several times I heard the jb it sounded way too bright and saturated for my liking. I couldn't understand why everyone liked it so much- but last night I took out my guitar(which has duncan designed pu's) and after about an hour of playing through headphones I caught myself edging toward the mid controls and CRANKING it. I know it's not a real jb but it sounds damn close to the clips and for some reason, I was loving it- in fact, I don't want to part with it anymore. It makes me think that when I finally go put new ones in I should stick a real jb in the bridge and live with my dislikes just so I can have even more of that clarity and upper mid saturation. What's weird is I've been spending a lot of time looking for a suitable bridge pup that WOULDN'T sound so bright but for some reason I've now fallen in love with that sound. :smack:

Has anybody else had a similar experience?

Indeed. I know quite well it's not as good as the real thing- but I didn't like the clips of the real ones before either and now I really do. I'm usually more of a "scooped mids, thick highs" type person... this is the first time I've really appreciate rich upper mids like that.

hehe- I think I'm still gonna try the cc/a2p combo and if that doesn't suit my fancy maybe use the trade in for a jb. Doesn't really matter what I do- this is bound to be a pain in the ass. Good news is payday has come and gone and I now have the cash to do it already!

Anyway, I put a JB in a Gibson Studio Lite along with a 59 neck and a 250K pots...what a 80s Metal Dream! Im digging it. It wasnt as good in my Epi Custom with 500ks.

Y'know, if I ever buy another guitar I'm gonna make it a point to have two tone controls- but as of right now it's damn annoying to sacrifice the tone of one pickups to fix another. In other words, STFU.

edit: that was directed at reckless abandon of course.

I use 300k with a JB. Oh, by the way there IS that thing called a tone knob...USE IT!
