Warmoth bodies?

Ok...I can't believe it, but I think I'm gonna take the plunge and build myself a telecaster. I don't want to buy a Fender necessarily, because I'm gonna mod the heck out of it and I don't see paying for the stock parts just to replace them. I've had no experience with the Warmoth bodies, but does anyone that has experience think that they are ok? I considered going with the 'thrift shop' but they don't have the body I'm looking for...I'm thinking Daphne Blue with a white pickguard, Seth Lover or '59 (or maybe even a tele neck pup) for the neck, and a JB for the bridge. Gold hardware all around. Also thinking about the comfort cuts and neck heel shave. Probably will end up using a strat neck. Any thoughts or comments?

Warmoth is the way to go if you want to build a hot rod. I bought a Soloist routed for a single humbucker, 24 fret Jackson style maple/maple neck, Wilk. Trem, had it painted white, Gotoh locking tuners, and all the extras: knobs, strap buttons, etc. Now all I need is a p/u and to put it all together. Not a bad deal for a total of $ 800.00 bucks, and its all to my personal specs.

I'm working on my 3rd Warmoth now.. no problems at all. As for the thrift shop body.. give them a call. Often they stock Strats and Tele's in "common" colors such as Daphne blue, even if they aren't listed on the website. May save you a few bucks as well.

I got the body shown in my avatar from the Warmoth "Thrift Shop". No complaints about the body or the finish.

You might also check out USA Custom Guitars. They offer more options on neck profile, etc. without as many "upcharges" as Warmoth.

A contoured heel and tummy cut are both nice. The arm cut just doesn't look right to me on a Tele body, but that's just my eyes. Just a suggestion - nickel/chrome hardware may look better with Daphne blue and a white pickguard.

I've completed 3 of the 4 Warmoth projects I've ordered. They're fine, although USA Custom is certainly worth considering, so you should talk to both to see who you're more comfortable dealing with.

the showcase is definitely the way to go if you want to save some $$$.

there was an unfinished body there recently, similar to what you're describing

you can see my projects on my site, and send along any other questions

just one obvious suggestion: plan well, and make a complete list of everything you'll need.

Freshy...that is pretty much dead on what I wanted, but I think that one is Sonic Blue(?). I appreciate all the replies! I was just a little bit jittery about spending the $ without being sure...the $300 bucks for the body sure would by a couple of Duncans...heheheheh.

This is exactly what I wanted! I'll have to go to warmoth and check this one out. I went to the USA website and they are saying that they're having a bit of a backlog on the finishing aspect. I take it from the previous posts that the Warmoth paint jobs are up to snuff?

I was actually looking at that before your thread.
my only comment is that on those rear-routed bodies, I like angled knobs and switch, strat style. Just my preference. Also, I see many of those with a TOM bridge, which I kind of like the looks of, although there's no reason that hum-tele bridge wouldn't give you lots of sustain.

if you can be a little patient, and find a finished body the way you want, you can probably save $100-$150, but if you're like me you probably just can't wait.

as far as the issue about the backlog getting finishing at USA, I know that Roxy moved not long ago and is probably still playing catch up. USA is backed up a little just on their end. You might confirm the lead time with Tommy by email. Roxy's finishes, especially on the bursts and transparent finishes, look a cut above. Just check their gallery.

It's in the showcase section, that's the area where they have a bunch of pre-made stuff ready to go. It used to be called the thrift shop and had great bargins in it. no it's got some bargins, but mostly stuff that's already cut and often painted in case you don't want to wait. Ordering a body from scratch with a paint request will take like 6 weeks.
