Warmoth copy of Shecter tele

For years i have wanted a Tele like the one seen in this live Who clip here

I can't decide if i shoul pay the extra and get a goldtop Mahogany body like this one in the video or get an all black Alder body with top white binding like Pete also used during the same era.... Goldtop or Black?

Also the other question is about the neck options.... I like the Warmoth Vintage truss rod Modern features neck for the fact it has the skunk strip on the back that looks like Petes guitar.... Or should i stick to modern double expanding rod Warmoth neck?

The warmoth construction necks sound terrible imo. Theres sumthing about em that just seems to suck alotta the low end outta the tone. I'de go with the vintage modern, or total vintage if it were me.
Plus they're makeing they're "warmoth contstruction" necks with a strange Side adjust thing for the truss rod now. Which Seems like it would make adjustments easyer, But I think would seriously decrease the stability of the neck over time.
Also, you'de have to pay extra for a straight radius on the warmoth neck. Where as the vintage modern, and total vintage necks come standard with a straight radius (although it is 7 1/4").

The Vintage Modern comes with a compound radius...... But ya the new adjustment on the trussrods from the Warmoth Pro necks i don't like the look of.... I have a 10 year old Warmoth Modern style neck and it sounds pretty good to me.. but the new truss rod adjustment on their modern necks i don't think i'll like

PS- another bonus of a Vintage/Modern neck form Warmoth is the top adjusting truss rod they now offer.... But it's only offered on Vintage Modern necks and not the others..

I have a warmoth tele with the modern neck-there is nothing lacking in the low-end tone department. It does have the side adjuster as well. In four years, the guitar has not needed a truss rod adjustment at all. You cannot buy a more stable neck than warmoth.

so you have not had any issues with that new truss rod adjustment piece.... I guess i distrust new toys until they are proven.... my 10 year old Warmoth neck with the modern truss rod was/is wonderful..... that parts guitar is still my best guitar to date... But also part of the reason i'm thinking about the vintage construction neck is really just to have the skunk strip... it's a look thing

No issues at all with my warmoth-it stays in tune better than any guitar I own. It also completely disproves many of the guitar tone arguments on these boards. Ebony board, stainless steel frets and a full brass tele bridge and this guitar has some of the warmest tone out there. Of course, it has an 80s JB and a phat cat in the neck. The thing sings.

EDIT: there's nothing wrong with the Vintage or Vintage Modern necks from Warmoth AFAIK, other than the flat bottomed fret slots in the fretboard.

I agree w/ others that the Warmoth Pro construction sucks tone, but it was the high end I lost in a direct A/B comparison with a MIM Fender neck.

Why? Huge, rectangular channel for huge, heavy double-expanding truss rod, plus the fretboard is significantly thicker. The last part may not be an issue with an all-maple neck, but it sure is with a rosewood fretboard.

IMHO the "Pro" construction is designed from a businessman's point of view - it's very stable, adjusts both ways (fewer complaints) and the routing is much simpler (read "cheaper") than the curved bottom, varying depth channel for a vintage style truss rod.

Ya i liked those ones a lot too! and the body would be a bit cheaper to make

I was just over at www.petetownshend.co.uk and there is a video of the Who rehearsing this week for the upcoming tour.... behind Pete is his fender Vibrokings but he also has a Hiwatt PT Signature head and a Mesa Boogie 4x12.....

I've got a warmoth modern construction neck with the tiltback strat headstock. So it has the double expanding rod with headstock adjust. I like it.

The warmoth double expanding rod is indeed extremely stable, but I wouldn't say it sucks tone. One strum on my Warmoth custom guitar and the guitar rings out with rich harmonic overtones coming not only from the body but also the neck - very nice sounding parts. Mine Warmoth neck is modern Jackson style, maple/ebony.

Amen. I just replaced an older Warmoth "pro" neck with a new "pro" one that has SS frets and the side adjuster. All the low end is there. There's no tone suckage whatsoever.

I see a lot of comments on this board that make me go "what?". I'm not sure if people are just repeating what they read or actually have real-life experience...

The only Warmoth neck i own is a mid 90's standard neck... Mine is the modern double expanding truss rod neck, straight radius, and Warmoth standard contour shape.... nice neck!

i used to have a maple/rosewood warmoth pro, maple/maple warmoth vintage modern and 3 usacg necks.

granted they are using different pieces of lumber, but i sure can hear a difference not much in tone but more in resonance.

i a/b-ed the necks on my most resonant alder strat body and found the usacg necks had a nice ring to them. they are somewhat more lively than the warmoths. the vintage modern sounded more open than the pro though. maybe its all that metal from the double expanding truss rod.

i am not sure if this is an isolated case. but that was the result of my experiment. somehow, it is rather inconclusive since i owned only one warmoth pro neck. i am sure there are pro construction necks out there that rings sweet. however, the usacg necks are mighty consistant in terms of resonance though. i am pretty impressed by usacg actually.
