I guess I'll ask...

What sort of music do you play? What amp are you using? What do you perceive is wrong with the tone you have right now?

And welcome :)

You named ZZ top. I'm thinking PGb right off the top, but it's a little bright. Sh-5b would probably be a good starting point. Neck pup I would say a 59 or something like it. You got me on the middle single. I never use 'em.

The Pearly Gates bright? I have the exact opposite impression.

Anyway, aside from the tried and true Jazz / SSL-1 / JB I'd like to throw in the Custom-5 and/or Custom Custom into the mix. Somewhat hot but nothing scorching and the Custom is a pickup that's VERY accepting of magnet swaps.

BTW, that looks pretty cool!

Even the comparison chart shows the PG to be bright. I put one in my Gibson Explorer pro and it was way too bright for that guitar. I tried it in a big heavy LTD FX-260 and it was still too bright for my tastes.

From the SD comparison chart.

Welcome to the forum! VERY COOL guitar!! Im a fan of old washburns! I also have played those same pickups and yes, they are bland..

Im not familiar with your amp. based on what you are describing, I'd probably recommend either a pearly gates set, or if you want more power in the bridge, a Custom or my personal favorite, a custom 8. (Custom with an alnico 8 magnet added)
