Washburn Wonderbar

I'm in the process of putting together another strat. It's going to have hot rails for pickups and I'm going to use it for hard rock/old school metal.

I haven't got a trem for it yet and when I was going through some of my gear today I came across an old Shift 2001/Washburn Wonderbar trem I used years ago and forgot about. It would fit the strat perfectly and it covers the trem hole up top perfectly but I was wondering if there would be a downside to using this and having the trem cutouts in the body. In theory it should give the guitar more sustain but I'm not sure. Any thoughts?

Re: Washburn Wonderbar

Wow, what a mousetrap of a trem that was. LOL! I have only seen 1 of them so, I am not 100% sure.

Washburn Wonderbar!
Man,you must have had that hidden in your stash for a loooooong time!

I could never come to grips with them. Because they are flush mounted on the top of the guitar,I found them bulky.
I remember taking some skin off my knuckles in the heat of battle. They don't have any "give" when you hit them mid windmill.

Cheers,PJ

Yeah it has been tucked away for awhile. I never minded it as I'm not a huge whammy user anyways and never did the huge dive bombs etc. You're right about it being bulky, but I do remember it being easier to keep maintained than the floyds I used to have.

It's funny with these that people either love them or hate them.
I guess maybe I will track down a trem for the strat and stick with the proper style for the body.

Re: Washburn Wonderbar

I think there must have been a good reason for you pulling it off in the past...

Re: Washburn Wonderbar

I dunno about putting it on a guitar... but I know it makes one helluva paperweight!

I had it on a flying v copy years ago, it worked fine for that, then I parted out the guitar and hung onto the bridge for a future project, and I guess I had just tucked it away a little too good.

Re: Washburn Wonderbar

i used to has a Washburn AF-40V...Ace Frehley...it had the wonderbar trem...it was pretty cool, but very bulky!!! stayed in tune good.

Re: Washburn Wonderbar

If you want a top-mounted trem that's lighter, I have a Kahler 2300 in chrome I can part with.

That said, the Wonderbar looks pretty cool.
