Watch it Grow - Barden Auction...

Re: Watch it Grow....

Re: Watch it Grow....

That is just an insane price for a set of pickups.

Re: Watch it Grow - Barden Auction...

Has Joe gone out of business? He made great pickups. This is kind of like when Tom Holmes quite selling his Humbuckers to the public for nothing shy of $500.

Anyone interested should try and call some shops in NY to see if they still have any in stock. Most of the stores around here are not aware of the fluctuations in market prices - that is how I scored a set of Holmes for $240.

Re: Watch it Grow - Barden Auction...

Just joined becuase I think it's unlikely I will be able to get Bardens and I really wanted a set and I saw your thread-

My Zion strat has Joe Bardens and I've been wild about that sounds for ages- I've got a coil roll off and in the almost completely rolled off position they are noise free vintage quack strat sounding (but with plenty of power), but in the other direction they warm up fast with essentially an explorer sound in the full hum bucking mode-

Anyway, I want to duplicate that setup in my parker HSS nigthfly and have been extremely disappointed to learn that Barden has stopped making pups-
I have the deluxe SSS sized humbuckers on my Zion, but would be looking for his full sized hum bucker for the bridge and the single coil sized hums for the nitefly mid and neck-

On the other hand, if these are now rare pups and go for more than my nitefly ($350), guess I will have to do with alternatives- Are there any clear winner pups fitting this deception that folks are turning to when they were looking for the Barden's?

Looking forward to input form anyone who's had experice with Barden replacement or similar sounding dual rail single coil sized hums-

Re: Watch it Grow - Barden Auction...

I want to mention someting here....

I am, in no way, endorsing Joe Barden pickups nor am I trying to get people to bid on these pickups. It has just always struck me funny that Joe's pickups always go for so much money in auctions. And if they are so good, why are these guys selling them? Are they worth it? That's subjective. The only time I played a guitar with them installed was in Sam Ash; when I played a Danny Gatton Tele. To me, they were too bright, too clean, to hi-fi, and to sterile. Kind of like EMG's....

Re: Watch it Grow - Barden Auction...

$510 so far on the first one...It has 1 hour and 40 min, left as I write this post.

Re: Watch it Grow - Barden Auction...

So these are no longer being made, and that's why they're going for that much? I refuse to believe any pickup is that good that a set of two is worth over $500.

Thats exactly what I was thinking. Both of these folks say they had them in there Tele's. What do you suppose is in there now?

Maybe they read Lew's Ultimate Tele thread.

Re: Watch it Grow - Barden Auction...

WOW!! Crazy pricing!!

I totally agree with your point, Butch ... I know for my Strat, the Bardens ARE the ultimate pup!!!

I have 3 x Strat Deluxe pups in there ... I wonder how much they would go for ... (NOTE: THEY ARE NOT FOR SALE, CHRISTIAN!! :D )

I have two Duncan cool rails and a Duncan Distortion in my Parker Nitefly and they are fantastic! I think that'd be the way to go for you.
